MayDay - that was one heck of a game!
CW hit their free throws down the stretch - that was the difference.
Very scrappy team from Central - they were able to handle Lady Dogs pressure most of the game, but did have some turnovers due to the pressure.

It's crazy how GC and C Wise gave only losses to Floyd & Brunswick....
I think 4 of CW's losses came to GC. Again, GC's only two defeats were to a TN team.

Bird and Hampton are 5A.. But we will get a matchup of Floyd and Brunswick because they both have committed to play in the StatVA Classic in Richmond next year so it would only be natural to have them play each other!!

There have been several instances where Gate City's
Boys and girls have played at different venues and the VHSL hasn't broken their necks to accomodate. Not just BB but our VB team has played in tourneys in Richmond while the FB team was playing elsewhere too. I know it's different sports, but the same hardship.

Maybe it should not be all that big a surprise that Gate City and Central-Wise are still playing. I know I mentioned that no one would probably come within 20 points of Brunswick and I really am glad I was wrong again (Clarke County played them close last week and lost by 17 on BHS floor). Girls hoops are a pearl in the SW part of our Commonwealth. CW beat Clarke handily last season on their way to losing in the state finals. Floyd has been a dynasty for years and Gate City has had a powerful program for a very long time. I saw GC twice in the late 2000s face Clarke, beating the Eagles in '06 in the state finals then losing to CC the next year in the semis. Congrats again, Central-Wise, on a very impressive victory over a talented Brunswick.

I had a very strong feeling the night Floyd and Gate City played it would be the state title game. I was right, I know anything can happen i just don't see cw beating gate city.
