VirginiaPreps.com has confirmed that BriQuan Harrell, one of the state's top two-sport athletes from the Class of 2019, has withdrawn from Western Branch High in School and enrolled at their Chesapeake rival, Oscar Smith.

Harrell helped the Bruins basketball team - which opens the season ranked #2 in the state in Class 6 - reach the State Tournament Final Four for the first time in school history last winter. He was the leading scorer at 16.2 points per game for a Bruins squad that finished 20-9 overall. As a freshman, he put up 13.1 points per game.

In Western Branch's 71-64 State Tournament semifinal loss to C.D. Hylton, Harrell poured in 32 points on 14-of-22 shooting from the field to go with four steals. He also had 42 points in a 68-60 win over Nansemond River last December.

For the first time since he was in Middle School, Harrell played football this year and was the Bruins starting quarterback for much of the 2017 campaign. In fact, he scored the game-winning touchdown in their comeback win at King's Fork, which suffered its lone Southeastern District loss on the season that night.

To add even more intrigue to this move - just two days before the Southeastern District basketball season opens - the Bruins play host to Oscar Smith on Friday night. No word yet on whether or not Harrell will be in uniform for that game against his former team.

Update - Harrell is not expected to play in Oscar Smith's basketball game at Western Branch on Friday night. However, he will reportedly suit up in the State Semifinals for Oscar Smith at Colonial Forge on Saturday. Harrell also will be eligible to play in the Tigers' game against Indian River on Tuesday night in basketball.
