The first round featured several rematches and half didn't have the same outcome as before. Take a look at some of the action as the road to a championship begins!
KING WILLIAM 60 AMELIA COUNTY 12
The Cavaliers got things rollin immediately when Kenadre Roane returned the opening kick-off for a 75 yard touchdown. King William would break open a 14-6 lead with a 32 point 2nd quarter to put the game out of reach and led 46 -6. Demond Claiborne carried the ball 18 to 202 yards and 3 touchdowns. Lance Alfonso would threw for 176 yards. Jayvon Robinson would get a pick six on a 41 yard return.
ALTAVISTA 35 WILLIAM CAMPBELL 28
The Colonels jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the Generals looking to turn around last week's result. The Generals would storm back and was leading 28-21 before Altavista was able to tie the game 28 all. Quarterback Jayllen Jones would cap off an 80 yard drive that ended with a 35 yard pass to Makel Stone for the game winner. Jayllen rushed for 145 yards and touchdown and he threw for 2 scores as well. JaQuallen had 12 carries for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns.
WASHINGTON & LEE 34 COLONIAL BEACH 33
Another squad looking for revenge would be the Eagles hoping to reverse their fortunes in the rematch. Following a Christian Mountjoy score that gave the Eagles a 34-27 lead, the Drifters would cherish their opportunity. Corvion Davis would connect with Randell Annino for a 65yard pass to set up the decision. Coach Earl Payton would go for the win but the pass to Garrett Mothershead would be knocked down just in town by Juwan Tolson.
SUSSEX CENTRAL 32 SURRY CO. 14
Tyree Rose would get the Tigers up on Surry County early as the Cougars looked to play better than last week's meeting. Up 14-0 at the half, Sussex Central would add touchdowns from Malik Chambliss and Imir Clark to go up 26-0. Surry would finally move the ball when the Tigers back ups came on in the 2nd half including a perfect strike Kahlil Drakeford to Kahorie Batten. Sussex Central will host Altavista next week.
RIVERHEADS 45 RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY 0
Riverheads was able to cruise and give their future plenty of reps in their opening round win over Rappahannock County. Coach Robert Casto rested 1A's top running back Zach Smiley and the Gladiators had no drop off. Casto showed excellent sportsmanship as the Panthers dressed only 15 players. Braeson Fulton got things going with a 62 yard touchdown. Noah Smiley, Adian Miller, Cy Cox, Issac Hartless, and Luke Bryant all scored touchdowns.
