Ricky Swarn gets one of two sacks on the night as the Tigers defense stepped up big.

SUSSEX- Over the pass several weeks Sussex Central has bended enough but hasn't had their defense break and was able to pull out some tough victories. Tonight with rival Franklin in town the Tigers were looking to be at their best......defensively. In that area, they definitely excel all night.

It would be Franklin who would come out ready to play some defense as Benjamin Owens-Kerbaugh would get an interception stopping the Tigers opening drive. The Broncos would not be able to capitalize off the Tigers mistake and would have to prevent the Tigers from threatening to score.

The Broncos would force a fumble and recover the football at their own 47 with 3:48 to play in the 1st. Unfortunately, for the Broncos they could not convert Sussex misfortune into points and they would be key regarding momentum. The third time would be the charm as a grinding drive would end with Rose going in from 2 yards out, and he would get the conversion to make it 8-0 Tigers at the 9:01 mark of the second quarter.

Tyree Rose powers into the end zone for one of his 3 touchdowns on the night.

Franklin would try to answer back and they looked like they would when Tyvon Carr would break a 42 yard run down to the Sussex Central 37-yard line. The Tigers would no longer bend as they were able to force Franklin into a 4th and 2. Sussex Central's defense would rise up and shut down the Broncos offense and would go into their 2-minute drive mode.

The Tigers would quickly move the ball down the field with excellent time management skills. Runners would be able to get out of bounds and timeouts were called at the perfect time giving them the opportunity to tact on another touchdown before the half. Quarterback Tyree Rose would throw a perfect pass to Jaylin Prosise who appeared to have had the grab but the ball would slip threw his grasp onto the ground. Tigers would be up 8-0 at the halftime.

Rose looks to make the right read on the option picking up the first down.

After halftime missed opportunities wouldn't matter as the Tigers would get rolling. Sussex Central would kick the ball deep and it seemed to catch the Franklin returners off guard as speedster Kendall Hines-Eley would mishandle the ball and Sussex Central would recover. On the next play, Rose would scamper down the sideline for a 26-yard run and get the conversion to make it 16-0 Tigers.

Jaylin Prosise looks for a lane on another big gain for the Tigers.

Franklin's last scoring threat and chance to turn things around occurred when the Broncos drive would get stopped at the Tiger 20-yard line. Sussex Central would get big runs from Imir Clark and Prosise to set up a 1-yard run by Rose to make it 22-0 to begin the 4th quarter. Soon after Prosise would explode for a 27-yard touchdown run. Tyson Garrett would get the 2-point conversion to make it 30-0.

The victory moves the Tigers to 6-1. Franklin drops to 2-5 and will host Greensville County (5-2). Sussex Central will travel 58 West to Lawrenceville to face the Brunswick Bulldogs. Coach Curtis Jefferson's Tigers can lock up the #2 seed by winning at least 2 out of their last 3.
