Sussex Central's Tamon Davis and Treyvon Hall stop Dariun Everette in the backfield.

FRANKLIN- Defenses win championships. If so then Sussex Central has a very good chance. The Tiger defense was a dominant force playing with a 4-man front that controlled the line of scrimmage all night securing a offensively starved contest with a 14-0 shutout in the Armory.

Coach Curtis Jefferson tailored a game plan perfect for taking care of business and leaving with a victory. Not at times pleasing to some of the fans that wanted to see Franklin exploited for putting 11 in the box. The Tigers kept calm and played like a team saving themselves for a possible part II while defensively sending a message. It didn’t however look like it would be such a game early.

Trevon Hatch breaks loose for 48 yards on the game's first big play setting up a score.

Sussex Central’s first possession ignited on 4th down when Trevon Hatch broke loose for a huge gain setting the Tigers up for their first score of the night. Quarterback Malik Delk was cool under pressure delivering on a middle screen pass to Pha’Shard Harris who cruised for the touchdown. Mack Prosise would make a finger tip catch for the two-point conversion making it 8-0 Tigers at the 6:10 mark of the 1st quarter.

Pha' Shard Harris goes in for the touchdown to give the Tigers the lead for good.

After the some turnovers and failed possessions, Sussex Central would strike again with Delk hitting Tyrese Rose in the flat. Rose would make a move and his speed pulled away easily for the 40-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 with 3:10 left before halftime.

Franklin had their best chance of scoring when a late hit put the Broncos into scoring position with 13 seconds left to play before halftime. Logan Hines pass attended for Ryan Aylward would be intercepted by Clyde Edmond in the endzone. The Broncos would not have a better chance to score again.

Clyde Edmond goes up and gets the interception to end Franklin's only score threat.

The rest of the game would belong to the playmakers on defense from both sides. Franklin continued to gamble sending the house while Sussex Central continued to battle through it.

The 2nd ranked Tigers (7-0) will be home next Friday as they face another rival at home, the Brunswick Bulldogs. Franklin (5-2) will travel to Emporia to face the Greensville County Eagles.
