Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest 17-Under Results

The Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest kicked off on Friday night with games at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton Virginia. The annual AAU basketball event featured some of the top AAU teams from Virginia.

Friday Winners and Saturday matchups


The host squad Boo Williams 17U made quick work of Ohio Varsity Blue with a 40-point blowout. Chris Clarke, who has an offers from Kansas State and Maryland, led all scorers with 15 points mostly on dunks and putbacks. His Cape Henry teammate Marcus Evans chipped in nine points while distributing the ball and running the point. Princess Anne guard Dashawn Corprew scored on a few highlight dunks and a 3-pointer to finish with 11 points while L.C Bird sharpshooter Kenny Williams added 10 points.

Team Loaded also had an easy time with a rout of Wayne PAL AAU. team. Sophomore Thon Maker drew a crowd with his all-around skills while showing his younger brother Matur Maker what AAU basketball is all about. Caleb Turner (6-foot-0) buried three treys in the first half including one to end the first half.

The East Coast Fusion defeated BWSL (Addison) 63-51. Adam Pickett scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack. Taylor McHugh, Darius Johnson, and Demetrius Johnson all scored in double-figures.

Higher Level surprised some with an overtime win over the Richmond Squires. Potomac guard Keijon Honore scored 17 points included three from downtown. Battlefield senior DeVondre Henry added 13 points. The Squires were led by Millwood 2016 post Jermaine Matthews who scored 18 points. Carlisle swing man Caleb Johnson hit a 3-pointer to put the game in overtime and finished with 12 points.

Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest 17-U Day 2

The Boo Williams organization secured a spot in the 17-Under final four when both of their teams made the Elite Eight for their bracket. BWSL coached by Boo Williams defeated SEBC and Team Loaded 804 while BWSL (CJ) defeated Richmond Metro and Team Loaded DC. Cape Henry point guard Marcus Evans scored 15 points in the win over SEBC Northside sophomore Edrice Adebayo scored 13 points while Maury's Matt Coleman had 12 points for BWSL in their 58-39 win over Team Loaded 804.

East Coast Fusion (Dalton) made the Elite Eight with wins over Team New York and Bedlam. Miller School junior Connor Schroeder converted three treys and finished with 15 points in the win over Team NY while St Annes-Belfield point guard Taylor McHugh added 13 points.

Team Loaded, with Thon Maker, earned a berth with a win over 6th Man Warriors and Playaz from New Jersey. Team Loaded trailed Playaz club in the first half but Benedictine point guard CJ Wiggins came off the bench to score two quick baskets to give his team the lead. Team Loaded pulled away in the second half.

DC Premier made the Elite Eight defeating the NJ Panthers and KSK. Marquez Letcher of Genesis Academy led the way with 16 points against KSK and Bishop O Connell point guard Jamaal King scored 12 points in the win.
