The NCAA Evaluation Period for the Spring session concluded this weekend with high school basketball players competing in AAU events. North Cross 2020 prospect Zae Baines took the opportunity to visit Purdue University and came away with a football offer according to his Coach Shannon Taylor. Baines was impressed

"Purdue was amazing; we were very surprised," Taylor said about the visit. "The facilities were amazing with three levels of just pure resources for the football team. They have a next level weight room...just a 1st class facility."

Taylor, who is the North Cross head basketball coach and assistant football coach, starred at Virginia before playing professional football in the NFL. The visit to Indiana allowed Baines a visit outside the Eastern seaboard.

"We were there (in Indianapolis) for live event," Taylor said. "They new about Zae so we took a unofficial visit. Anthony Poindexter (Purdue Defensive Coordinator) is a good friend of mine. We set up the visit a couple of months ago...met the whole staff; very impressed."

Baines has only played two seasons of varsity football but he has made All-State both years. As a freshman he was 1st team All-State and All-Virginiapreps while earning 2nd team All-State as a receiver and cornerback this past season. He has 74 receptions with over 1000 yards receiving in his two seasons with 16 total touchdowns. He also has 11 interceptions and 21 pass defensed including two pick six scores and a kickoff return.

"They loved his film!," Taylor said. We met with wide receiver coach and watched film. We spent about 3 or 4 hours there, went on campus as well."

Taylor says Baines plans to attend camps at Virginia, Duke, Wake Forest and Penn State.
