Although kickers don't play every down, they are a factor in field position and offensive play-calling when teams are inside their opponents 35-yard line. Flint Hill kicker Justin Duenkel is an elite talent in the kicking game and his strong leg led to a scholarship offer from Virginia tech.

"I was at the Virginia Tech specialist camp yesterday," Duenkel said. "It was really exciting and the competition was really good. I was offered after camp."

Duenkel said his performance stood out among a talented group of kickers who were tested in kickoff distance and field goal accuracy.

"I was the most accurate kicker with 18 of 20 long field goals and I tied for the long ball/last man standing competition."

Virginia Tech is'nt the only school interested in the 1st team VISAA D1 All-state kicker. Duenkel says virginia has offered and Penn State has asked for a workout. Also, North Carolina State and South Carolina have invited him to camp. He has also been invited to the Pro Football Hall of Fame All American Camp in July.

"I have been working on my leg strength and flexibility," Duenkel said. "My squat went up 100 pounds."

Last year at Flint Hill, Duenkel converted 50 of 52 cextra points while making 2 of 3 field goals. More impressively, he placed putting 62 out of 80 kickoffs out of the end zone to limit the opponents starting position. As a sophomore he was a perfect 22 of 22 on extra points while converting all four of his field goals.
