REGION A OUTLOOK

The make up of the playoffs are starting to get a little in focus. Many teams play games this week that will be very important to how that can be seeding going forward. Several teams just need to show they are ready to show they are more than a good team but a title contender. This week we take a look at many of the big games this week.

Dominick Broaddus and the Essex Trojans will look to erase last week's 6-yard passing performance.[/B]

ESSEX (3-2) at NORTHUMBERLAND (4-1)
The Indians have a big opportunity to sneak up on the Trojans after their big game that just didn't go their way. Don't count on the Trojans not being focused. Expect them to be ready to get out of the bottom of the Northern Neck. Count on Coach John Fulks to get quarterback Dominick Broaddus confidence back by going to the air in this one.

PREDICTION: Essex 42 Northumberland 14

LANCASTER (5-0) at WASHINGTON & LEE (5-0)
The Eagles maybe on top of the 1A East ratings but they have had a close game or two. They are battle ready and that's a good thing because Lancaster is ready to show everyone that they can actually play some good football. Treshaun Brown will have to make smart decisions late to keep the Eagles undefeated in this one.

PREDICTION: Washington & Lee 36 Lancaster 28

The Tiger's Churrio Scott must have a big game on the ground in front of a huge home crowd in Sussex Friday night.[/B]

PARK VIEW (3-2) at SUSSEX CENTRAL (4-1)
Last season this was the game that made things a nightmare for Sussex Central. On Friday night the Tigers face a must win game in order to more up in the ratings and showcase the talent they have this season. The Dragons aren't about to make it easy but the game may come down to the backfield of the Tigers producing big in this one.

PREDICTION: Sussex Central 30 Park View 14

Rappahannock will be in battle once again with a tough Drifter run defense.[/B]

COLONIAL BEACH (4-1) at RAPPAHANNOCK (4-1) (THURSDAY NIGHT)
Both of these squads were a play away from being undefeated right now. Rappahannock wants to show that they are the true contender to Essex's Northern Neck dominance. Lamar Lucas and the Drifters however rely on a defense that won't fade like the one did versus King George. Look for Lucas heroics late to be the difference.

PREDICTION: Colonial Beach 22 Rappahannock 20

Darren Owens is back from injury for the Bulldogs and looks to captalize from his 225 yard rushing performance last week.[/B]

FRANKLIN (1-4) at BRUNSWICK (2-3)
Brunswick hosts Franklin in a must win for both teams. Franklin needs to get it together but this isn't the place for that to occur. Coach Darren Parker's team will face a Bulldog team hungry to get at .500 and show that they will be factor come playoff time. The speedy Broncos will have to overcome the hyped up environment as well as a tough rushing attack. Look for both quarterbacks to be the key of each defense's focus.

PREDICTION: Brunswick 28 Franklin 12

There will be nothing but celebrating in Surry County Friday night as the team host Windsor.[/B]

OTHER REGION A PREDICTIONS

King William 40 Charles City 20
Mathews 14 King & Queen 13
Nandua 44 Snow Hill (MD) 6
Northampton 20 Arcadia 14
Southampton 28 Greensville 26 OT
Surry County 46 Windsor 6
West Point 49 Middlesex 14

EXTRA POINT
Northampton broke a 36 game losing streak that had dated back to 2010. The Yellow Jackets principal Mike Myers slept on the roof of the school in a promise made at the teams pep rally. Northampton is very motivated now and face off with a disappointed Arcadia squad who had high expectations. Northampton is ready for a new kind of streak this week to be made.

Even though Altavista and Parry McCluer will likely not lose a game this season, it won't really matter. Neither team can outpoint several Region A teams if they run the table the rest of the way. These teams include Essex, Surry County, Sussex Central, and Washington & Lee. The Colonels and Blues need help from upsets to grab the number 1 and 2 seeds. If things come down to November 7th and 8th before either of these teams fall again then Thanksgiving weekend will have the furthest teams west will be coming east.

The x-factor is Central Lunenburg. The Chargers can be in serious contention for the top seed if they can defeat Buckingham County. If this happens then the match up in Crewe on Halloween will be at upmost importance to several Region A teams.
