The schedulers did a good job making this Friday what it is. Playoff seedings are on the line and for some teams it maybe playoff hopes in general. Some upsets may take place this week but will they happen where you are?

GAME OF THE WEEK

Franklin's Dariun Everette will have to be a workhorse for the Broncos trot.

#2 SUSSEX CENTRAL (6-0) at #9 FRANKLIN (5-1)

One of the biggest rivalries in Southeastern Virginia is between the Franklin Broncos and the Sussex Central Tigers. No matter the other team record they find a way to play above and beyond themselves for this game. Their crowd is like no other and demand strong play from their favorite team and if they don’t deliver then they will hear about. This season both teams are better than they were a year ago and ready to play another classic.

Franklin has a lot to be excited about. Fred Lassiter maybe one of the most complete quarterbacks the Broncos has ever had. Standing 6 foot 4 and 230 pounds, Lassiter has an accurate arm to go with the visual approval. And then there is the top wide receiver in Region A, Natron Lee. Lee has always had superb hands and now has the speed to make him a lethal threat.

Sussex Central will need Trevon Hatch to come up big in the backfield Friday.

Sussex Central fields a complete squad from top to bottom. Running backs Trevon Hatch and Mack Prosise can break the big one at anytime. Quarterback Malik Delk is a veteran who continues to make wise decisions while orchestrating the veer. The defense is fast, tenacious, and hard-hitting. Friday night will give them the credibility and the momentum needed going into the playoffs.

KEYS TO THE GAME:

Both teams can throw the football. Both teams can run the football. The decisions on the sideline will never be more critical as momentum has been a constant in this series. Franklin plans to take away the veer while the Tigers look to shut down the power-I. Neither maybe completely successful but they will try. By doing that, each team will open the door for big plays in the passing game that could easily change the game.

The biggest question will be which team can take the other out of their comfort zone? Franklin has shown they aren’t afraid to go to the air if the running game isn’t working. Will Lassiter have time to go deep and make the plays needed?

Can the Tigers offensive line dominate and allow their backs to get to that second level? If they can then they will be hard to deal with.

BOTTOMLINE: Even though the Tigers are stronger team, pride will fuel the Broncos into playing their best game. It will be worth every dollar.

Prediction: SUSSEX CENTRAL 24 FRANKLIN 20

Coach John Fulks' Trojans are ready for the toughest of their district foes.

COLONIAL BEACH (4-2) at ESSEX (2-4)

The Trojans are back and now they look to show some swagger in a game that may decide the Northern Neck title. Coach John Fulks will have perfect conditions and a big crowd to show off the turnaround. KJ Dameron is expected to power the ground game while Tim Johnson will be a threat whenever and wherever he gets the football.

Can Coach Jeremy Jack and the Drifters quiet the homecoming crowd at Essex?

The Drifters come in with one of their most athletic squads led by quarterback Alonzo Young. The thunder and lightening backfield of Anajai Lewis and Lamar Lucas will be key to the Drifters success to have ball control and make each Essex possession treasured more than gold. The Drifters only losses have came to 2 top 10 teams.

Prediction: ESSEX 28 COLONIAL BEACH 12

Football_16.jpg

The Cavaliers face a critical match up with Mathews and Coach Dylan DeHart will be ready.

KING WILLIAM (3-3) at MATHEWS (3-3)

The Blue Devils have their best chance to give King William their first district loss in years. However, the Cavaliers aren’t ready to suffer a loss quite yet. Ryan Huffman has gotten on his game propelling the King William offense as they look to return to the playoffs and play Cinderella.

Mathews at times has looked pretty impressive. In order to win Friday they will need to take advantage of being the home team. Atwood Walker will have to make big plays along with Anderson Stuart if they want to be in contention late.

Prediction: KING WILLIAM 34 MATHEWS 24
