Jakal Williams of Brunswick will be on the West squad as their gamebreaking back.

LYNCHBURG- The Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star football game is always an indicator that football season is only a few weeks away. The state's best players assemble to compete in a usually competitive contest in which for some maybe the last time in uniform while others go on to play college ball. The teams are separated in an East versus West setting but the selection of players aren't always geographically arranged. Several players from eastern schools will find themselves on the West squad more in this year's contest than previous years.

Many of the standouts of Region A have secured a spot for the big game including VirginiaPreps Defensive Player of the Year Sterling Hammond of Essex. Hammond was one of the most hard-hitting playmaker at safety the region had seen in years. He was also a talented receiver on the other side of the ball. Hammond will attend Jireh Prep in Indian Trail, NC.

Coach John Fulks of Essex also had another powerhouse player that will make an impact on Thursday's game in Markuis Lucas. Lucas can play various positions at 6 foot 2, 290 but is best known for dominating on the defensive line. Fulks enjoyed the versatility of Lucas you can also play tight end or fullback. Lucas will attend the University of Virginia-Wise.

Coach Damien Crissy of Lancaster will be sending prolific wideout Tyrell Henderson (5 foot 11, 180 pounds) represent the Red Devils. Henderson has excellent hands and breakaway speed and should have an advantage on the cornerbacks representing the West. Henderson will play football at West Virginia State.

The top 2A team in Region A, Brunswick is sending two athletes to the big game. Dominating defensive lineman Jaheim McFarland (6 foot 2, 255 pounds) will be a crowd delight with his technique, quickness, and power. The other player is speedster running back Jakal Williams who runs hard and strong for his size. He help lead Coach Harold Williams Bulldogs to some of their most rewarding seasons which included a state championship appearance in 2013.

Coach Darren Parker of Franklin will also be sending two great athletes. Dominique Gainey was always a presence on defense opponents had to account for. At 6 foot 3, 285 pounds and with surprising quickness, Gainey could disrupt any backfield and it will be interesting to see what he will do Thursday night for the East.

The other Bronco gracing the field will play opposite of the other stud safety and that is "Mr. Lightening" Corey Porter. Porter broke onto the scene early in his career as a shutdown cornerback. His play was so spectacular that Coach Parker moved the playmaker to safety where he could get in on more of the action. Porter is also one of the best return men in Franklin Broncos history.

Another player from the Tri-Rivers district making the squad is running back Coby Williams of Southampton. Williams is quite underrated but maybe one of the best running backs of the 2014 season as many will find out this week. Coach Wllie Gillus is turning the Indians back into a contender and Williams was a role model for the young men behind him study. Williams will attend Virginia Union University.

From the Eastern Shore, Tyreim Blake of Nandua will also be on the field for the East squad. Blake was a powerhouse on defensive with his big hit ability and great hands. The 6 foot 2, 230 pound athlete was also tremendous at quarterback. One of his biggest highlights was leading the Warriors to a comeback victory over Franklin earlier last season.

All the players with the exception of Franklin's Porter and Williams of Brunswick will suit up for the East squad. Kick-off is at 7:30 on Thursday night at Williams Stadium at Liberty University. Be there early to see player’s recognition and introductions beginning around 7.
