With the news that broke this week with the VHSL now allowing non-boarding private schools to join, it got my mind thinking... How have schools stacked up against the privates? Well to answer that question we need look no further than Cosby and James River who are the only 6A schools in the Richmond Region to play the privates since 1970.
Cosby played Benedictine and St. Christopher in their inaugural season of 2006 and lost both matchups by scores of 17-33 and 6-13 respectively.
James River also played Benedictine, twice and rather recently, 2011-2012. The Rapids were outscore 29-67 combined in the series.
So bottom line, privates are 4-0 against the 6A Richmond Region schools but facing Manchester, Thomas Dale and an improved Cosby team from that first season will be a different story, if and when the time comes.
