The West went on an 8-0 run in the final 1:04 to edge the East squad, 107-100, in the annual Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star game held at Lynchburg College on Monday night.

Taking home MVP honors for the West was Battlefield guard Kam Hedgepeth, who scored a game-high 26 points and was 6-of-7 at the foul line in the final three minutes of play. Hedgepeth plans to spend a prep year next season at Hargrave Military Academy in hopes of playing at the Division I level.

Four others scored in double-figures for the West in Bucknell signee Nate Jones (15 points) of Radford, E.C. Glass' Tai-He Jeter (15 points), Louisburg College signee Vinny Agee (12 points) of Fluvanna and Eastern Mennonite-bound guard Khalil Davis (12 points) from Spotswood.

Winning the MVP award for the East was Colonial Forge swingman Marco Haskins, a two-time Group 6A State Player of the Year that led the Eagles to back-to-back state titles. Headed to play his College Basketball at Division II Chowan in North Carolina, Haskins scored 22 points and made six three-pointers. He scored 16 points in the second quarter, bolting the East to a 58-54 advantage at intermission.

Also scoring in double-digits for the East were Haskins' Colonial Forge teammate Winston Burgess with 16 points and Altavista's Demetrius Johnson with 13 points. Burgess is headed to play his College Hoops at the D-2 level at Shepherd University.

The East scorched the nets from long distance with 15 makes from three-point land, but went just 15-of-30 at the free-throw line. As for the West, they made 11 three-pointers and connected on 26-of-38 from the charity stripe.

This was the closest final in the VHSCA All-Star Boys Basketball Game since 2011 when the East won 92-90 at Christopher Newport University.
