#2 Covenant Eagles (8-1) vs #3 Norfolk Christian Ambassadors (8-1)

Covenant (8-1) established themselves as the 2nd best team in DII with wins over Christchurch and North Cross. The Eagles are playing in their 1st playoff game since the 2015 season. They averaged over 40 points per game and their only loss was to top seed Blue Ridge.

Covenant has a balanced attack with quarterback John Huemme (6-foot-2, 185) running and passing the ball. Nic Sanker and his brother Jonas Sanker have made plays all season. Jonas is a threat to score every time he touches the ball and is a ball-hawk in the secondary. The Eagles can also pound the football with senior fullback Donavan Jackson. Cole Harvey is a 2-way player on the line and senior David Szatkowski is tough inside anchoring the defense.

Norfolk Christian also finished the season with an 8-1 record with their only loss coming to DI member Norfolk Academy. The Ambassadors are in the playoffs for the 2nd straight season after a 2-year hiatus from having a football program.

Norfolk Christian does a great job of getting the ball to their playmakers. Sophomore Lamareon James has close to 1500 yards rushing and receiving while scoring 20 touchdowns. He is simply one of the best football prospects i've seen this year. Quarterback Alvonte Lawton passed for 1559 yards and 21 touchdowns splitting catches among James, Gage Elliott and Andrew Allgood. Caleb Hunt teams with Andrew Allgood for a very aggressive attacking defense. Allgood has seven sacks and leads the team with 43 solo stops.

Prediction
This game may be the best matchup among all the VISAA football playoff matchups. Covenant Norfolk Christian lost to North Cross last season but they have more weapons this year in the 2nd year under head coach Tim Bender. Norfolk Christian performed better during their two wins over common opponents This game is a toss-up ay come down to who has the ball last. I'm going with my coin flip results and picking the road team in an upset.

Norfolk Christian 35 Covenant 34
