With Washington-Liberty's 27-7 victory over Marshall last week and Westfield's loss to Unity Reed, I wasn't sure how this game might play out. WF managed to show a balanced run-pass game and the ability to hold the ball and gain yardage in this game, and it paid off with a needed win.

W-L received the opening kickoff at their 25 yard line. Moving to the WF 31 yard line they attempted a 4th down pass that went for no gain and WF took over. WF moved the ball to the W-L 29 yard line where they converted a 4th and short, then scored on a Jenks to Johnson 15 yard pass to go out in front 7-0 (Mattfeld XP) with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter. W-L went three and out on their next possession and a good punt gave WF the ball at the WF 35 yard line. WF moved the ball well on this drive and reached the W-L one yard line on a 23 yard Jenks to Johnson pass before Jenks scored on a one yard run to extend the lead to 14-0 (Mattfeld XP) with 11:06 to play in the half. W-L went three and out on their next possession, followed by a WF punt, then another W-L three and out. WF would get as far as the W-L 27 yard line where they failed to convert a 4th down attempt before W-L ran out the clock at half time.

WF received the second half kickoff and went three and out. W-L then went to a passing attack and moved the ball down inside the WF 10 yard line before facing a 4th and goal from the 4 yard line. Electing to kick a field goal, W-L's attempt was blocked by WF's Kennedy but WF was penalized for an illegal substitution and W-L lined up for another attempt, this time from 9 yards out. Ceballos-Medina's kick was good and W-L cut the lead to 14-3 with 2:20 to go in the third quarter. WF then started their next possession on their own 19 yard line until W-L's Crowley intercepted Jenks at the WL 38 yard line. W-L was unable to move the ball, losing 10 yards when Jones was sacked and W-L punted to WF. WF's Morin took the kick and went around the right side for a long return to inside the W-L 10 yard line, but a penalty near midfield negated the return and WF was pushed back to their own 41 yard line. WF then put together a 59 yard drive and scored on a 19 yard Jenks to Morin pass to extend the lead to 21-3 (Mattfeld XP) with 6:01 to play in the game. WL went right back to their passing game, but after several plays WF's Ohr intercepted a Jones pass in the middle of the field and returned it to the W-L 12 yard line. WF failed to move the ball and set up to attempt a 30 yard Mattfeld FG that went wide right to keep the score at 21-3. On W-L's next possession WF's Ohr recovered a fumble by W-L's Jones on a sack and WF went to the running game to try to run out the remaining 4:35. When WF failed to convert a 4th and 1 at the W-L 25 yard line, W-L had one last opportunity to score with about a minute left but ran out of time.
