In a very physical game that saw a first half full of big plays, followed by a second half that saw each team try to impose their will on the other, Westfield came away with a 31-28 OT win. Before I get into the game play, hats off to Herndon's #6, Liam Wilson, who pulled double duty as DE and RB., almost never coming off the field. As the RB he probably had 30+ carries and was a huge force for Herndon.
HERN won the toss and deferred, kicking with the wind and putting the ball out of the back of the end zone. WF reached the HERN 44 yard line but punted, giving HERN their first possession on their own 18 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, HERN's Callow found Humphreys for a 38 yard pass to the WF 44 yard line. HERN then moved down the field and score when Wilson ran it in from 7 yards out for a 7-0 lead (Zouagui XP) with 4:02 remaining in the first quarter. WF took the KO at their own 20 when the KO went into the end zone again and on their first play Jenks found Morin for a 36 yard pass to the HERN 44 yard line. After a 23 yard Jenks to Murphy pass, Jenks eventually ran it in from yard out to tie the game at 7-7 (Mattfeld XP) with 1:15 to play in the first quarter. HERN muffed the ensuing KO and had to start on their own 18 yard line, but Callow hit Swinton down the right sideline for a 64 yard gain to the WF 7 yard line. Wilson then scored again on a 2 yard run and HERN was back on top, 14-7 (Zouagui XP) with 11:17 remaining in the first half. After a short HERN KO into the wind, WF started at their own 40 yard line and put together a 60 yard drive to score on a 22 yard Houser to Anderson pass to tie it again, 14-14 (Mattfeld XP) with 8:42 left in the half. Herndon answered with an 80 yard drive of their own, scoring on a 71 yard Garcia run around the right side to go ahead again, 21-14 (Zouagui XP) with 7:01 to play in the half. After a WF punt, HERN's Callow was intercepted by WF's Rennyson on the WF 33 yard line and Rennyson returned the ball all the way to the HERN 25 yard line. Jenks soon found Anderson for his second score on a 20 yard passing TD and it was tied again, 21-21 (Mattfeld XP) with 29 seconds remaining.

HERN ran several plays but then faced a 4th and 3, with Wilson getting the three yards to keep the drive alive. HERN ran three more plays and again faced a 4th down, 4th and 6 at the WF 30 yard line, but HERN lost yardage to turn the ball over on downs at the WF 34 yard line. WF went three and out on this possession, and HERN had the ball on their own 28 yard line just before the end of the third quarter. On this possession a HERN 4th and two attempt at the WF 32 yard line would come up inches short and WF took over on their 30 yard line. WF got one first down on this drive but had to punt, getting a good punt to pin HERN on their own 10 yard line. HERN quickly moved to near midfield where they faced yet another 4th down, 4th and 7 at the HERN 48 yard line. HERN elected to go for a fake punt and the up-back (I think it was, you guessed it, Wilson) ran around the right side for a first down. After two plays gained little yardage, HERN opted for a HB pass but Wilson's long ball was dropped by a receiver who was behind the defense and Herndon had to punt. The punt pinned WF on their own 6 yard line with about 2:29 to play. WF used a Jenks 28 yard run to the WF 35 yard line to get some breathing room but had to punt the ball back to HERN with 19 seconds remaining in the game and the ball on the HERN 37 yard line. HERN did gain some yards to get to the HERN 46 yard line but elected to run plays instead of attempting a long 65-70 yard FG with the wind on the final play of the game. Not sure why, since their kicker was easily kicking the ball 60+ yards through the uprights from midfield, with the wind, in warmups. So we go to overtime.

HERN used a 7 yard Wilson run, a 1 yard Wilson run, and a two yard Wilson run to even the score at 28-28 (Zouagui XP).
In the second OT HERN went on offense first. On their first play they were penalized for a block in the back that pushed them back to the 15 yard line. HERN then got a 9 yard Callow to Humphrey's pass to the 6 yard line, but got no more yards and lined up for a 23 yard Zouagui FG attempt. WF's Duda came off the left side and blocked the kick to give WF a great chance to now win the game.
