In 3 A three teams tied for 6,7,8

Yeah, Tabb at Hopewell. Hopewell has been through so much adversity this year, death of a team mate player early in the year, four starters injured quarterback, running back and receive + tight end. But they still have alot of young talent and a soild defense. Should be a good game, Petersburg at Lafayette will be interesting Petersburg has speed and athleticism Lafayette Shouldn't take them lightly. I. C norcom and Heritage Norcom Shouldn't have a problem but this is the playoffs, AND New Kent at Colonial Heights should be interesting. Good luck teams.

Illegal participation

could you describe for me what has to happen for this penalty to be called. In a game this weekend, the officials enforced this infraction but couldn't quite understand the reasoning for it. I'm not saying there wasn't a penalty on what I witnessed but just didn't think it was illgal participation. Here's what happened: Team A has 12 defensive players on the field, one rushes to the sideline and is about 2 feet from the sideline when the ball was snapped. the official who works with the chain crew dropped a flag as did another official who worked downfield on Team A's sideline (this was a 7-man crew). After quite a bit of discussion among the officials the 15-yard illegal participation penalty was enforced.

4-D playoff match-ups now looking set...ish

Wow , awful presumptive that both GW and Salem would be able to just run straight through Handley and Sherando and other teams to get to region final. Handley may very well struggle if the QB is not available , but still not a pushover . Sherando is a better team than most might think. 🤔
🤷🏽‍♂️ would rather see those two teams make it. JF, Salem and GW will be more competitive with Phoebus.

It’s lame that Handley couldn’t finish the job yesterday. I hope Salem beats them 70-0 this week. The region needed a Salem/GW final. @Chuck Vipperman (GW) can we sign a petition to get Keshawn Waller a RB #. That young freshman is the next big thing out of Danville VA.
Is the Class 4 championship back at Liberty?

College Football Ain't Good No Mo

There's a lot of bad football being played though. Yes, there is parity. But even the great teams (record wise) aren't even that great for the most part.

Also, the lack of effort and heart are now even more apparent than ever.
I put a large part of the "record wise" piece on conference realignment. Putting the majority of the top teams in 2 conferences and saying "have at it, boys!" was a terrible idea in the eyes of football purists. Oregon/OSU and Texas/UGA or Bama don't even sound right as conference games. BYU and SMU leading the Big 12 and ACC standings, respectively? Unserious football.

Again, I get it from a financial standpoint but it just makes for a bad product.

5C seedings

Shoot bring Louisa back to the Battlefield
Bring Orange as well and that is a stout ten team district for the most part. Everyone would have to get better and would be better battle tested for the playoffs. All you have to do then is go out and schedule one crazy hard non-district game (preferably a Class 5 or 6 team) to help you get better.

Essex 14 Westmoreland 7 Halftime

@m-squared …Just to add a little more to kwhs95fan post about Westmoreland. Our local paper The Rappahannock Times post the top 5 players in Rushing, Passing, Receiving and Scoring in the Northern Neck & Tidewater Districts. It’s updated weekly. Before yesterdays game, QB Tolson is leading the NND in passing with…
156 Att. 99 Com. 5 Int. 24 TD. 1772 Passing yards. 63.5 PCT.

Westmoreland also have the top 3 receivers in the NND…

1.) Burrell- 34 catches. 641 yards. 18.9 Avg
2.) Garnett - 20 catches. 428 yards. 21.4 Avg
3.) Meade - 17 catches. 306 yards. 18.1 Avg.

I agree that pass coverage is Essex weak spot BUT…how weak is it if passing teams not score much against them? They may give up a lot of yards vs. passing teams but when the field get short, they lock it down for the most part. I don’t know the exact number but Essex has gotten a number of INT’s vs the pass.

Matoaca @ Dinwiddie

I kind of want to get this thread back on track. Most people observed the trash talk before/during the game, the extreme punishment they put on each other and plethora of errors made by these teams. What most did not observe was the bond shared and the pure emotions that occurred after the game.

I have been watching/involved in high school football for over 50 years and I have never witnessed the pure respect the kids/coaches showed one another at the end. To see Caleb Williams (South Carolina commit) lift Harry Dalton (USC commit) over his head and hug one another for a minute was refreshing. This incident repeated itself between different players/coaches throughout the handshake line/prayers huddle.

I spoke with one of Dinwiddie's players after the game and pointedly asked him why. This was his reply. "Man, we have been knocking heads with these guys since flag football (age 6). My brothers (Dinwiddie) work so hard to stay on top and keep our winning streak over them going. Matoaca, the same way trying to finally beat us. Man, I am hurting physically like they are emotionally. We took it to each other one more time and left it right here. It just all came out!"

As fans we may get emotional and type stupid words that mean zilch. To these kids and coaches it's real. So very proud of both teams and especially our seniors. They gave us and themselves a game to remember.

One last note. Super proud of our 5'11" 225 lb freshman offensive tackle Austin Wells. He matched up most of the night with All State defensive end Caleb Williams (6'6" 260 lbs) and performed well. Although Williams had 6 tackles he was held without a sack for the first time all year. Our smallish but sound technique o line just keeps getting better every week.

College Football Ain't Good No Mo

That's the parity that is college football. While I love NIL because these young student-athletes (women and men) should be getting paid, it has removed the loyalty and seemingly the genuine love for the sport. I hope it doesn't happen but I can see where players for the "playoff eliminated" teams will now start to sit out to focus on their next best move whether it be hitting the portal or preparing for the NFL draft.

CFB is slowly going to turn into CBB where you have a team of young 5 star recruits losing to the Armys (no disrespect to the Black Knights) of the CFB world because experience will trump talent (not week in and out). I'm both excited and weary to see where CFB heads in the future....

College Football Ain't Good No Mo

The traditional powerhouses of college football began to show their weakness when 2007 App State went into the Big House and ran circles around Michigan. 2018 The Citadel trailed Alabama 17-10 at the half and 2017 Troy quietly defeated LSU 24-21. Two years later it was 2019 LSU lifting the national championship trophy. The ranking system in college football is a joke. It serves to make sure that highly financed colleges and universities with powerful alumni are the only teams invited and that Northern Illinois or some other unknown but stable football program will not come in and bulldoze Oregon. The portal system and the potential for NIL income as teams piecing together their teams just before spring practice. The first coach to master that system wins. For now I believe there are multiple unranked FCS teams that can easily beat the power 5 conference teams. This determination to keep Alabama in the top 12 in spite of them being losers is weak. The 2021/2022 back to back national champs Georgia Bulldogs now look like a really bad high school football team but ranked 3 before getting mashed. Think Tenth Avenue Freeze Out.
