Salem at GW

@MrSalem1000, haven’t been to a Danville home game in a long time but I’ve drove by to see the progress when I come home. I know they’ve done a lot of renovations but there used to be parking behind the visitor bleachers. They’ve constructed a brand new parking lot on the opposite side of the new gym they’re building. GW has a very very nice athletic facility and plenty of parking.

Also, @Chuck Vipperman (GW) can we please make sure we have a comfortable spot for our brother @mike salem if he’s making the trip down. Hope he gets to make the trip, should be a heck of a football game this year.
Ok thanks man. I appreciate it!

Hayfield

While that may have been Hayfield's initial argument, the accounts from the hearing say the judge came prepared knowing the pleadings, facts and rules and the VHSL got hung out to dry because they did not follow their own rules. That is on the VHSL and their lawyers, regardless of whether Hayfield/FCPS broke rules on their own part. What's not fair is adults not doing the jobs they are paid to do and the kids suffering the consequences and that is on BOTH sides.
Agreed; who wants to bet their motion is filled with LCA being a charter member and how they violate the VHSL rules? I have said this since day one: a first-year Lawyer can win this case and, if not, at least muddy it up with injunctions to hold the VHSL accountable.

Hayfield

From reading an article I saw yesterday (I cannot recall where because there were several, and assuming I did not misinterpret what I read) it appears the judge made his ruling based on a technicality and not the true merits of the case. It did not help that the judge was said to be much better prepared than either of the lawyers representing both sides. The issue was that the recommendation to remove Hayfield from the playoffs was from VHSL's Hahn, not a VHSL committee of some type in accordance with the VHSL by laws. Very unfortunate, but that is the way our legal system works.
That was the report in the comments section of the Fairfax Times story I believe. While not specifically addressing the alleged violations I think the judge did his job properly on all the merits of the situation because rules/bylaws/process are established for protection of ALL parties.

Hayfield's/FCPS' alleged wrong doings were not specifically condoned meaning the rules/findings themselves still stand but, the reality, at least in my opinion, is that the judge's ruling actually showed what a sorry job BOTH sides did. Haun and the VHSL deserve the bashing they will likely receive, in my opinion, because the timing and their failure to handle the situation damaged additional parties besides FCPS and Hayfield. This does not excuse Hayfield/FCPS as none of this happens if the violations question never arose.

Salem at GW

I can see either team winning this game really. The GW running game definitely poses a threat to the Salem defense. With Cabell being a dual threat qb that worries me with the Spartan defense. It’ll be cold for sure. I don’t think the cold will have much of a factor on the run game. It could with the passing game as I know the cold can make the ball a little more difficult to catch at times. If the Salem defense can watch the film from the Handley game and see how the Judges exposed them and work really hard to get that fixed I think they can keep them in the game. If not, Salem will need to jump on them quick and not fall behind early. It’s better for this Salem team to take the lead first and be in a shootout that way then falling behind quick and having to fight back being a step behind. Personally, I don’t think the Salem defense will do well with the GW offense early on and going into the half. If the GW line starts to get worn out in the second half I could see the Salem defense having success. I do think the GW defense can handle the Salem running game. However, if the GW defensive front gets tired in the second half like the Handley defensive front did, Salem could very well take over in the second half and salt it away. I look for the Eagles to do their homework and see the success Handley had on the ground last night and try to come up with a similar game plan. I wish just as much success for the Salem football team as much as every other Salem fan does on this board. However, as much as I want to give this team credit when they do well I think there is also times to be critical with ones sports teams. I think GW pulls this one out, 38-34. Last night worried me a lot and just doesn’t have me feeling good about this game. Like I said I love this football team as much as the others do, I just call things like I see it. I just want to give my honest opinion and I hope that it’s respected on this board. Love you all. I hope you all don’t feel like I’m trying to sell these boys short it’s just how I see things at this point in the season.

For those who thought Salems defense had improved

Above all things this was a heck of a game. My hats off to the Judges. To come down on a Friday night down 81 from Winchester and play as well as they did. I made that trip many times when I used to live in Winchester. It’s kinda bittersweet to me when Handley meets up with Salem as I do miss my time spent up in Winchester. I see more battles between these two squads in the future. Jaishaun Offutt for the Judges has a bright future at Wake Forest and I’m sure Akanbi is getting some D1 looks. That young man can play.
