I knew the Phoebus defense was very sound. However, after spending the last hour and a half watching most of the game I quickly realized just how well coached and disciplined the Phantoms are. #0 gets behind the o line and waits patiently for a hole to pop into. The quarterback is very poised and makes great decisions. I especially enjoyed watching #52. He has a great motor and lays the wood on both sides of the ball.

Because of the Phoebus stifling defense it's really hard to tell how good the Highland Springs offense is. I will say the transfer QB from James River is not an upgrade from the backup that transferred to Varina. I thought the Springers defense looked good at times, but Phoebus had them well scouted.

In a nutshell on this night Phoebus had more talent, executed the game plan to perfection and did not beat themselves. It's going to take a special team to beat the Phantoms.

I totally agree. I think HS tried to dominate "time of possession" with the run game. PHS defense was stifling and HS couldn't sustain drives. Phoebus did exactly what HS wanted to do. PHS completely dominate time of possession and were able to complete drives, HS couldn't do that against that stifling defense. Good job guys, great team you have down there!

Bruton whose play has once again gotten very competitive is now going to play all Bay River District teams. Lafayette hasn’t played Bruton in a few years. They beat up on a Jamestown team in a benefit game a few weeks ago.

You are being kind. I know they have been coached up, but I can't put my finger on it. The defense wasn't getting blown off the ball it simply looked like over pursuit and the lbs not staying at home at times. On three occasions the North Stafford qb threw the ball up while in the grasp and the receivers made plays. Offensively, the Generals just didn't execute and the running backs seemed like they were running on ice. I liked North Staffords defensive scheme in the first half. If the Dinwiddie receivers had caught several well thrown balls I may not be griping right now. A ton of work to do, but I have faith in our leadership.

Well said. You would be very surprised at the people calling for a coaching change on that side of town. I wholeheartedly think those people are nuts. HS has had a hell of a run but the kids aren’t buying in like they once did. Johnson’s baby boy is a senior and LJ could be going to greener pastures soon… I think HS will be alright but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lose to a Glen Allen (yup I said it) or Dale in the playoffs. The Richmond area is deep this year.

Glass had a huge win over PH last night and GW beat Amherst for the first time in two years. If going to the 2nd ranked team in C4 (top 6 team in the state) and playing competitively with them for a half isn’t battletested, I don’t know what is. It’s been hard to win in Lynchburg for GW for the past decade or so. They’ll need to play a lot better on offense. Like the way this Danville team plays hard and doesn’t quit.

I can tell ya, if Salem plays defense the way they did in the first half of the Franklin County game, it could get ugly!!
If the Salem team that played in the 2nd half shows up, then it will be a game!!!

I think Fleming gets Salem as well. Their defense looks very good this year. They made easy work of Glass and Heritage in their scrimmages.

Glass could easily be 0-2, but I like their fight in the second half. I would say that Glass is more battle tested than GW. GW’s balance on offense could pose to be a problem for Glass, but the defense has adjusted in both games. If you want to beat Glass, you better jump on them early. What does Gw’s secondary look like? Glass’ running game is nonexistent right now, so if they can make some plays in the secondary they could win. Give me Glass!

They laid an egg last night. Nowhere near the quality on both sides of the ball of the Phantoms. Congrats to Phoebus' team, you guys proved why you have 36 straight wins and 3 straight state titles (and many more). As they say, HS doesn't rebuild, they reload.... looks like this year is that rebuilding team. We're probably going to take another one on the chin next week, at home.... it is what it is. Springers have a lot of work to do!
