Hayfield

I can't disagree with anything that has been said, but after 35 years of working in the judicial system I have to respect the judges order. Right or wrong he/she ruled on the facts. It does set a strange precedent and membership schools should be concerned about the poor effort displayed by the VHSL representation. I for one believe it's time to send the VHSL brass packing. They no longer have credibility, sound leadership, nor can they be trusted to mandate fair play.
Something tells me that the VHSL has never really had competent legal representation who has reviewed their by-laws.

Regarding Dinwiddie vs King George

I may be going to Richmond on Saturday night and if I am I may stop and catch this game before I go to Richmond. I assume the Salem/GW game is on Friday but I’m really not sure because I haven’t seen a confirmed time. If Salem does play Friday I’ll probably go see Dinwiddie on Saturday. What’s the parking like at Dinwiddie if I do attend? Anyone know?

Benedictine Repeats State Title

The Benedictine Cadets are repeat VISAA DI State champions after defeating #1 seed St Michael's 43-12 in Fredericksburg. It was the 5th title in the past 10 years for Head Coach Greg Lilly.

Benedictine broke open a tie game with several big plays in the final minute right before halftime. Senior Ryker Cook scored the Cadets 1st touchdown on a 1-yard run with 57.8 seconds remaining in the half that made the score 13-6. Junior linebacker Landon Snyder intercepted a pass and returned it to the St Michael's 11-yard line. Quarterback Carson Lambert found senior Owen Smith wide open in the endzone a few seconds later and the lead was now 20-6 going into halftime.

The lead ballooned to 34-6 midway thru the 3rd quarter.

Lambert completed a 42-yard pass to Roddrey McWilliams then connected with JoJo Johnson for a 25-yard touchdown reception. Linebacker Ayron Norton sacked Warriors quarterback Austin Mawyer causing a fumble that was recovered by Snyder at the St Michael's 15-yard line. Cook scored his 2nd touchdown from 2--yards out.

Special teams played a key role for Benedictine in their semi-final win against Trinity Episcopal and they factored into the Cadets win in the championship game. After a scoreless 1st quarter, senior Cole Draucker put the Cadets on the scoreboard with a 22-yard field goal. St Michael's missed the extra point after their 2nd quarter touchdown and then the ensuing kickoff was booted short allowing Landon Snyder to return it to the St Michael's 24-yard line. Benedictine used the field position to tie the game at 6-6. Draucker added a 3rd field goal (43 yards) at the start of the 4th quarter.

St Michael's had the lead in the 2nd quarter with a 65-yard scoring drive that ended with a 12-yard touchdown run. However, Benedictine would score the next 40 points and led 43-6 with 11 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.

Game of the week: Varina vs Huguenot

Shocked there isn’t a thread for the game of the week and possibly the game of the playoffs in D4!

Who yall got? Let’s get some good breakdowns too
First glance I don't know that the Huguenot has faced a defense like Varina's and vice versa... has Varina seen an offense like Huguenot this season?

Sneaky good subplot too is QB Linwood Johnson versus the team he played for last season.

Also... Varina won by one point last season at the very end no less.

fan participation

i gotta give it up to the louisa fans they showed up in big numbers last night. there were more louisa fans than trojan fans and it was raucous. makes the whole experience worth the trip.
Great to hear as I did not experience that at LC Bird. I don't know if it was the first cold night of the season or what but I was shocked at the low number of fans that came out to Dutchman Field. To be such a proud program not even half the stands were filled. Disappointing to say the least.

Louisa County 34 Midlothian 23 Final

Louisa County scored touchdowns on their 1st three possessions and rolled up 413 yards of offense to defeat Midlothian 34-23.

The Lions scored touchdowns on their 1st three possessions and rolled up 413 yards of offense to defeat Midlothian 34-23. Savion Hiter, Rivals #1 ranked junior had 194 yards rushing including running 80 yards for a touchdown on his 1st carry from scrimmage.

Rutgers commit Dyzier Carter setup two touchdown scoring drives with two long receptions. He finished with 4 receptions for 82 yards while also running in a 1-yard touchdown.

The lead changed hands four times in the 1st half. Midlothian scored on their 1st drive going 68 yards in 13 plays with quarterback Tyler Snead connecting with Drew Kleski on a 13-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans took their final lead 16-13 on a touchdown pass from Snead to Donovan Dolla with two minutes to go before halftime.

However, it took Louisa County less than a minute to retake the lead. Hiter broke thru the middle of the Trojans defense for a 35-yard touchdown run to give Louisa County a 20-16 lead that they never relinquished.

Senior running back Jayden Seaberry rushed for 45 yards and scored two 3rd quarter touchdowns from 17 and 18 yards for the final points of the game. Luke Rowan and Aiden Shaw both intercepted passes in the second half to help Louisa County maintain their lead.
Any word on their injuries

State Runs through Altavista

Plaguing Essex? They have one loss so I wouldnt quite say they are plaguing. Stop making excuses and let things play themselves out. Essex has had 2 close games and won 1 and loss the other. I think their close encounter with Westmoreland was more of Westmoreland living up to their potential. Now the L they took to Rapp I'm sure everyone was surprised by that. Rappahannock may have just figured out a formula to success and that's not knocking Essex but more so giving the staff over their some credit.

Sussex and Galax have been the most disappointing teams in 1A Football. I certainly expected more from them.

I'm looking forward to these playoffs and the fact that we will get to crown a new State Champion this year because we all know that the 'Big Red Machine' will be back in 1A next year. So lets enjoy this while we can!!!!
With the "Big Red Machine" coming back what were they like this year. They seem to go up and down from Div 1 to 2 every so often??
