VHSL 2A Football Final Standings

I think this is such BS …no disrespect to other teams but Appo is 5th? After playing in the final 4 and playing Graham in a closer gam at their home than Central did on a neutral site…..the 3 of the 4 losses were to 3 & 4 A schools…..Glenvar should be above Radford as well, Glenvar beat them heads up and went farther in playoffs as a lower seed than Radford …whatever…

News All-Region 5B Football Teams for 2022

eoeefjwcnduarsm4i66i

Coaches recently selected the 2022 All-Region 5B Football Teams.

Earning Offensive Player of the Year honors was Maury senior running back Peyton Jones, who helped the Commodores capture their fifth straight regional title and play in the State Championship game at the Class 5 level for the third time in four seasons. A Duke commit who was selected to the U.S. Army All-American game, Jones racked up 1866 all-purpose yards and scored 16 touchdowns.

Named Defensive Player of the Year was junior corner Da'Vontae Floyd, who excelled on both sides of the ball and concluded his season with 31 catches for 489 yards and 8 TD's offensively. From his corner spot, Floyd went into the State Finals with 19 tackles, two for loss, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Chosen as Coach of the Year was Maury's Dyrri McCain, who is now 57-15 at the helm of his alma mater with five regional titles in six seasons.

News All-Occoquan Region 6C Football Teams for 2022

Coaches selected the 2022 All-Occoquan Region 6C Football Teams.

Fairfax standout Tony Rojas was named the Occoquan Region 6C Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. The four-star prospect and Penn State recruit ran the ball 233 times for 2279 yards and 35 touchdowns to go with 16 receptions for 273 yards and two more scores. Defensively, he led the team in sacks.

Trey Taylor of Fairfax was also named the Occoquan Region 6C Coach of the Year, leading the Lions to a 13-1 mark that culminated in a regional title and State Semifinal appearance. The 13 wins marked a school-record as they also enjoyed their first unbeaten regular season since 1999.

2023 Playoff Picture?

We have months to debate and think about the 2023 football universe in Class 6 but why wait? With the changes to regions and classifications with the latest alignment cycle things will be mighty interesting. The obvious being a potential state championship game being played in the state semifinals between Freedom and Highland Springs... your Class 6 & 5 champions from 2022.

Region 6A retains 5 playoff teams from 2022 in Cosby, Manchester, Oscar Smith, Thomas Dale & Western Branch.
  • Exit stage right is Franklin Co., James River and Floyd Kellam.
    • None of these teams made it past the first round this past season.
    • Franklin & James River make the drop to 5C while Kellam falls to 4A.
  • Entering the picture is Glen Allen who reached the region final in 5C this past season and obviously Highland Springs, the 2022 Class 5 champion.
  • Can you say juggernaut?

Region 6B will see 7 of their 8 playoff teams return in Battlefield, Colonial Forge, Forest Park, Freedom, GAr-Field, Patriot & Unity Reed.
  • The one team that is out is John Champe who falls to 4C.
  • Mountain View who reached the region finals in 5D this past season will now reside in 6B.

Region 6C will have all 8 playoff participants back with Alexandria City, Fairfax, Hayfield, Robinson, Lake Braddock, South Co., Thomas Edison and West Springfield.
  • Region 6C sees no addition of teams from the playoffs in 2022.

Region 6D sees all 8 teams return just as was the case in 6; Centreville, Chantilly, Herndon, James Madison, Langley, Washington-Liberty, Westfield and Yorktown.
  • Like Region 6C, 6D sees no addition of teams from the playoffs in 2022.

6A is treacherous with Highland Springs, Manchester, Thomas Dale, Western Branch & Oscar Smith all in the same region. Then that champion will matchup with Freedom? The teams that come out of the regions and make the Class 6 final will either be battle tested to the point they win it all or so banged up they are easy picking for whoever comes out of 6C & 6D.

2023 Playoff Picture?

As we all know, every region, every class will have a different look after the latest cycle of alignment of regions & classifications.

With that said... let's talk about the 2023 playoff picture...

Region 4A only returns 3 playoff participants with Churchland, Hampton and Warhill.
  • Grafton & Heritage (Newport News) drop to 3A. Both teams made the playoffs but made it no further than the first round.
  • Deep Creek moves up to 5A and Kings Fork moves up to 5B as does Warwick.
  • The big move in Region 4A is the addition of the Class 3 champion Phoebus.

Region 4B will have 7 of their 8 playoff participants returning... Dinwiddie, Eastern View, Hanover, King George, Patrick Henry (Ashland), Powhatan & Varina.
  • Matoaca exits 4B moving up to 5C and in comes Caroline from 3B. Caroline reached the region semifinals last season for the first time in 30 years.

Region 4C has just 4 playoff participants back with Heritage (Leesburg), Loudoun, Loudoun Valley & Tuscarora.
  • Halifax, Millbrook and Sherando stayed Class 4 but now call 4D home.
  • Kettle Run dropped from 4C to 3B.
  • Joining in the 4C fray is John Champe dropping from Region 6B and Woodgrove dropping from Region 5D.
    • Champe made it to the region semifinals this past season whereas Woodgrove went out in the first round.

Region 4D has just 6 of their 8 playoff participants back with Amherst, Glass, Halifax, Jefferson Forest, Orange & Salem making up the contingent.
  • Out is Waynesboro who moves to 3C and Louisa who moves to 5C.
  • Muddying up the waters of the playoff picture for Region 4D enter Halifax, Millbrook and Sherando.
    • Halifax made it no further than the first round this past season.
    • Millbrook & Sherando reached the region semifinals this past season.
What is interesting here is that Dinwiddie, your defending Class 4 champion and Class 3 champion Phoebus might be on a collision course.
