Coaches recently gathered to select the 2022 All-Peninsula District Football Teams.
Named Offensive Player of the Year was Phoebus WR/DB
Jordan Bass, a Pittsburgh commit who has played his best in the best in the biggest of games where the lights are brightest.
Through the first five games, Bass had 16 catches with 8 TD receptions, two rushing scores, a kickoff return for a touchdown, plus led the defense with 34 tackles, six stops for loss, five pass breakups and three interceptions with two pick-sixes. None of that compared to what he did against reigning two-time Class 6 State Champ Oscar Smith in the regular season finale, where his four receptions - all touchdowns - totaled 152 yards to go with a rushing score and a couple of punt returns that added up to 36 yards.
Earning Defensive Player of the Year was Phoebus defensive lineman
Mychal McMullin, a James Madison University commit who has been an unstoppable force since his freshman year. McMullin not only had a strip-sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown against Woodside, but he came up huge with four sacks, three before half-time, in the 56-0 shutout of Oscar Smith.
Jeremy Blunt of Phoebus was tabbed as Coach of the Year, leading the Phantoms to an unbeaten regular season that saw his starting defense not allow a touchdown during the entire regular season. Through one round of the playoffs, Blunt is 113-19 overall at the helm of the Phantoms.
