Rode past the school this weekend and their nice, new scoreboard has been installed, but the bleachers continue to sit in the school's parking lot!!! They've been sitting there since at least mid-July. Someone needs to be held accountable for this situation and reprimanded! Essex has had two scrimmages and one game relocated thus far. Their "first" home game is supposed to be September 22. Will is happen or will school system officials allow this fiasco to continue? This is a disservice to the student-athletes who represent the school.
On a totally different note, King and Queen Central has a new lighting system that really brightens the field there.

What is the rule for being ejected for 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties how many games are you suspended for?

Dear Warriors,

I hope this letter finds you dusting off your 2015 state title trophy and rings. I am hoping that the 2023 Freedom Eagles learn a lesson from the 2013 Phoebus Phantoms. The Phantoms played the DeMatha Stags in an 2013 opener to a 24-20 loss. A game that Stags fans had predicted would be a blow out turned out to be very competitive. The blow out came 2 years later when Magna Vista entered the greatest high school football stadium in America and defeated Phoebus 28-23. When the universe starts over following the big bang or whatever I am going to do everything I can to stop the staff of Dematha from stealing our speed demon; Robbie Robinson from Phoebus so that he can be wearing the blue and gold and run all over and past you so that we win that game 35-14 or 28-23 or whatever. I hope the 2023 Freedom Eagles are paying attention.

Greetings from sunny Norfolk, VA and Powhatan Field on this Friday, September 8, 2023.

We will be providing updates of a re-match of last year's Class 5 State Football Championship, right down the street at Old Dominion University, as the Highland Springs Springers (2-0) take on the Maury Commodores (1-0).

Maury pulled away from Wise in Maryland last week after a 14-all tie, prevailing 34-14. Highland Springs, winners of 17 straight, beat both Miramar in Florida and nearby Richmond foe Manchester by six points apiece.

Loren Johnson's Springers are a perfect 11-0 against teams from the Tidewater area, also known as the '757' area code, in his career.

The Falcons had to wait a few weeks to get their sason started and they won convincingly defeating Clover Hill 75-6. Quarterback Jason Wright accounted for nine touchdowns throwing seven and running in two for the Falcons who set a school record for points.

Wright completed 11 of 14 passes for 266 yards while adding 60 yards on the ground. Star defensive end Samuel Cohen dominated the defensive side of ball with eight tackles, two-sacks, a batted pass, and a touchdown from blocked punt.

Menchville allowed a ton of points in their loss to Bethel but cornerback Jamere Peterson came up will a spectacular interception in the end zone. It was the 3rd pick for Peterson in three games and he has one in evey game.

I waited a couple of weeks to do a top 10 and things are definitely very tight. Teams like Galax and George Wythe have played tough games, but no doubt they'll be in the mix of 1A when it's all said and done. As always just my opinion, and honestly no team has really stood out thus far.
