    John Handley High School

I attended a game there a few years ago. I agree, it’s impressive. Im sure you know it is a fully endowed high school, which I take it means that they do no accept any state or federal funding. I’ve done a little research to try and find out what the financial history is, primarily, how much...

Richmond HSA has released FB coach.

That’s what caught my attention. A mid year termination is pretty unusual. But, Bo said that HE posted it on his Facebook page, which I find unusual if he had done anything embarrassing. You know guys, I’m not sure there are many head coaching jobs tougher and with more challenges than RHS...

Basketball-Can an official forfeit a game for fan comments?

I reread your opening comment and I agree, what was said by the fans probably didn’t raise to the level of a reportable sportsmanship violation. But, taken in its entirety, what transpired should have been reported to the League by both the school Principals and the Officials association. And...

    Rules changes for football?

Is there any indication what rules will be changed by the NFHS, or what the points of emphasis will be for 2024?

Basketball-Can an official forfeit a game for fan comments?

It is my understanding, (maybe baring something extreme, such as White Hat mentioned, but even then I don’t believe it’s an option), the officials could only “suspend” a contest, not declare a forfeit. I believe that the authority to “forfeit” a contest is solely initiated by the participating...

0.006%. Maybe Worse But It Is Much Easier To Get Injured For Life.

I’ve said this for 25 years, “essentially no kid on a high school football team will ever earn a living from football, but every one of them will need to earn a living somehow.” I’ve got two of Coach Mills former players working for me and they are budding superstars. Why, because they were...

    Coaches insights wanted

All GREAT comments. mvwarior, Ampipe, and Wikki summed it up, and what catchtds said is absolutely critical to withstand what they pointed out. You can weather the storm a lot better when your AD and Principal support you and take the parental heat so that you can focus on being a Coach and...

    Realignment up or down

First, let me state that are a few schools that are playing outside of the class that their ADM would otherwise dictate. This muddies the numbers that I’m about to list below. And the reasons that this is the case is an argument for another day. (ie. Sherando). With the exception of what I said...

    Realignment up or down

I’m sure there will be a few that move. I guess you could go back and see which teams were at the extremes in their class and ask if it’s likely they lost or gained students. You have gotten my curiosity up. I’m going to look up the numbers.

    Harsh Stone Bridge Bulldog Criticism

On New Years Day, 1933, Coach Roland Day took the Petersburg Crimson Wave to Jacksonville Florida and played. This event later evolved into a college game and is now known as the Gator Bowl. https://vasportshof.com/inductee/roland-day/

    Harsh Stone Bridge Bulldog Criticism

Speaking of playing out of state. Hey Kenneth, you are a student of the game. Do you know what Virginia High School team is credited with playing in a game that was to become the Gator Bowl?

    Did it end 7-6 Galax?

Class 1 is one of the most exciting classes for me. The loyalty and faithfulness of the fans is second to none. The kids play for pride of school and community. I hope for a rematch of Galax and Essex in 2024. With the way it played out this year, it will be epic.
