In a nutshell, Riverheads was incredibly young this year. Some people that could have helped the team did not even come out this year, one returning senior who would have had a good year was hurt in the very first football game and missed all of both seasons, and they only had 10 bodies on the team, three of those freshmen, and not a whole lot of size. So yes it has been a rebuilding one but to their credit, they have all stuck with it (no quitters and no academic casualties) and for a team with 15 losses, some of those have been competitive games.
Will Altavista be the favorite in this game? Most definitely. Will Riverheads show up and give it the best effort they can? Also most definitely.
And as I have posted frequently in my game reports throughout the season, the Gladiators had an outstanding JV team this year that finished 15-4, even though the entire starting five were eighth-graders. That is almost unheard of in JV circles. So the hope around RHS is that the foundation has been laid for a big improvement in the coming seasons.
