Without starting the whole easy road for 1B in the playoffs, which game should be the one to keep your eye on?
Northumberland @ Essex- This is a rematch of week 7 for these two. Northumberland brings the unexpectiveness of Palmer as QB and what he can do from that position. Essex brings a Defense that legitimately only given up 14pts in the district with starters are in the game. With both being NND teams, it makes for a rivalry
W&L @ Sussex- With W&L pulling off the upset over Colonial Beach last week, Many on here had counted them out for the season. Sussex is playing well and have only had losses to schools above 1A this season. Can Coach Taylor pull another upset to set up an ALL NND regional?
Altavista @ Riverheads- After a week off, The Gladiators should be primed for putting up big scores over the 3-7 Colonels. Does Altavista have anything to compete with the power or Riverheads?
Central-Lunenburg @ William Campbell- The 8-2 Generals are looking to extend their playoff season this year after being eliminated in Round 1 last year. Can the Chargers Defense keep them in the game?
I think most fans will expect Riverheads and William Campbell to start making plans to play next week. Neither of the teams they are playing were above .500 in the regular season.

All of the favorites SHOULD advance. Palmer with a historic performance could throw a wrench in the plan. That is not a slight on Essex. That is a compliment to Palmer.

As far as the easy road for B , VHSL says play the team put in front of you !

Lunenburg @ William Campbell-I may be alone in this thought, but earlier in the season Lunenburg lost by only 5 to WC. Does the bye refresh the Generals or does some rust set in-plus the obvious potential showdown with the Red Team (if chalk holds) for the Region B title? On paper WC should win, but for some reason I feel it will not be easy. The Chargers love to play keep away with the ball and if there are any offensive miscues by WC it could be setting itself up for an early exit.

Altavista @ Riverheads
- The Red Team handily.

W&L @ Sussex
-Sussex should win this one. The Eages should keep it close early, but if the Tigers continue to perform as they did last week their running game could take a toll on the Eagles defense as the game wears on. Regardless-Coach Taylor will have a game plan in place to test the Tigers and make them earn whatever they get.

Northumberland @ Essex- No disrespect towards the Indians and their great season, but Essex is just too powerful. Palmer will give them a spark, but the defense will contain his backbreaking runs when plays break down and there will be little if anything to be had in the run game. On the back end they are as athletic as the Indians receivers-covering them to allow the D-line to pressure Palmer. The Essex offense is head and shoulders better than the Indians last 3 opponents-Rapp, Lanc, and WP. They vary their looks on offense and can play ground and pound or air it out. Look for Essex to cruise to the Region A Championship game.

I agree that WC is not that strong. For some reason, many thought WC could maybe defeat 3A TJ...

Maybe people just want someone that can challenge Riverheads in B...not this year.

The best game will be WC Lunenberg imo. The only reason WnL will hang with Sussex for a while is Sussex O does not put up many points. WnL may score once on a busted play or something. Unlike us (WP) Essex has the team speed to shut down Palmer. He will probably get loose for a score, but one score aint gonna come close to getting it done

Essex 35- Nmbld 7
Sussex 35- WnL 7
WC 21- Lunenberg 14
RH 42 - Vista 0

Those scores will be very close to what we see Friday night I bet

For those who are interested, WRAR in Tappahannock will cover the Northumberland at Essex game live on the radio (105.5 FM) or anyone can listen online at RealRadio804.com. They also will give updates on the W&L at Sussex game.

WRAR and WNNT do a great job covering the local sports scene (providing scores for the NND and Tidewater in all sports during their morning show and other times).

Thank goodness for local radio.

Region A semis
Sussex 32 Washington & Lee 14 Passing game will be key. If Tigers get a good pass rush to compensate for DB play this will be ugly
Essex 42 Northumberland 20 I've said since the off season that Palmer (when healthy) is hands down the best player in Region A BUT Essex isn't West Point as they are just as athletic if not more athletic than the Indians
Region B semis
William Campbell 27 Central Lunenburg 26 In my opinion probably the best match-up on the Eastern half of the state. WC beat Central earlier this year but both teams are improved. Don't be fooled by Central Lunenburg's record. 3 of their games were decided by 10 or less including a 5 point loss to Campbell.
Riverheads 49 Altavista 12 An unusually down year for Altavista and the Big Red Machine roll over the Colonels

Side Note:
Essex Maxpreps page has their schedule as playing Sussex Central on 11/24. While I believe it will happen. It's pretty bold to turn in a schedule for a game that is still to be decided.

Washington & Lee is Good team who deserves full respect unlike the 0-10 mess in Region B!

Trust me...Essex did not submit anything to Max preps regarding a schedule for a game. The coaching staff at Essex was just as surprised as anyone else when that was listed. Maxpreps is known for not being 100% accurate at times. And this is one of those times.

Speaking of which.. who is on Essexs coaching staff other than Todd Jones? Any carry over from last year?

I didn't say Washington & Lee wasn't a good team I mean they just beat a very good Colonial Beach team. Just seems Sussex is rolling right now I mean only losses to 3A playoff team Southampton and probably one of the better 2A teams in Region A Greensville. Haven't seen either team just judging on scores.
