Stuarts Draft 8, Nandua 4: Boogie Saunders’ RBI double and a sac fly from Mark Rodgers helped Stuarts Draft score four runs in the sixth and pull away for an 8-4 win over Nandua in the Virginia High School League Class 2 quarterfinals at SDHS.
With the win, the Cougars, who were once 0-5 in Shenandoah District play, advance to the state semifinals on Friday, where they’ll take on Chatham — the Region 2C champion — at 1 p.m. at Radford University.
Saunders finished with a double, two runs scored and an RBI for Draft while Dawson Jones, Aric Gutt and Brady Ward had an RBI each.
Trip Christian led the way at the plate for the Cougars (19-8), going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Zane Armstrong was key in relief, tossing 2.2 innings and giving up no runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two
