Never too early to start thinking about playoffs. Hopefully Gretna can get back to playoffs this season. Hard to sit home come playoff time

This will look so different in a few weeks. Glenvar, Union, Richlands, Giles and Appo are the top 5 teams. Richlands has some good points coming up with games vs undefeated Bluefield and undefeated 3A Abingdon. Richlands also plays Virginia this week and Grundy in 3 weeks. I still think the top 5 will be Union, Appo, Richlands, Glenvar, Giles in that order.

Glenvar and Giles play each other, and both still have a very good Redford team left on their schedule. So one of them could feasibly end up at 8-2. Union won't lose again. Richlands will be favored in all their remaining games. Appomattox is the great unknown at this point.

Neither Appomattox or Union have teams remaining on the schedule with alot of points left to grab. Appomattox schedule has mostly 1-3 or 2-2 type teams left. Even if Richlands wins out I don't think there are enough points left on their schedule to get them past #4. The winner of the Glenvar/Giles will be #1 if either wins out because there are a ton of points there. The loser will end up being the odd man out at #5. I have it Glenvar/Giles; Appomattox; Union; Richlands; Glenvar/Giles. Richlands or the Glenvar/Giles loser will have the toughest road to Salem if my prediction holds up.

Appomattox won't get beat and will gain points as long as Buckingham, Rustburg and Heritage continue to win.

I think Appomattox will win out and if will remain number one. They will have at least couple conference teams with6-7 wins as they just play each other now. From this point out if you win out conference points are all the same as you get points from which either team wins doesnt matter which one and they also end season with D4 Amherst. Even a 4-5 win Amherst gives them alot points being D4. Buckingham hasnt lost since Appomattox and I think they will run table rest of year with really only threat being a little down Goochland. Rustburg has also not lost since Appomattox. Think Glenvar/Giles winner also wins out but have undefeated D1 Auburn and Radford in conference with one win so far in rest of conference. I have Appomattox, Union, and Giles going undefeated. I have Glenvar, Buckingham, and Richlands with one loss. My math says they finish Appomattox, Union, Giles, Richlands, Buckingham, Glenvar. Also notice no one is talking about Richlands/Abingdon game. Abingdon blew out Christiansburg who led Giles foralmost whole ball game. Think Richlands wins this one but could be interesting. I know all my predictions on how competitors finish couldbe different but I have Appomattox just 4 points ahead of Union but 12 ahead of Giles so Gileswould have tohave more than a few of my predictions wrong to jump undefeated Appomattox which being in conference play now doesnt matter because which ever teams I think wins even if the other does they all will end up getting same points for running conference. All then comes down to out of conference records for teams you beat.

I saw Appomattox and Buckingham play the best defensive game I had seen in a while. Appomattox stopped us 3 times 1st and goal from inside the 5 and we returned the favor twice. Appo is huge up front and have good speed at the skill positions. Says a lot when u hold Buckingham, Rustburg and Heritage to 27 points combined in 3 games.

I agree hawk with your premise that in conference games don't change much but with 3 strong teams like Giles, Glenvar and Radford all being 5-0 before conference the winner will get a ton of points for the out of season wins of the teams the loser beat. That is why I see a big jump even though Giles and Glenvar are playing in conference. Appomattox is way out front but their in conference rivals are not strong out of conference. I looked on maxpreps and I was seeing 1-2; 1-3; 2-2 etc. on the out of conference wins so far. Yes they still play 4A Amherst with the play up points but I doubt Amherst will have many wins this year either. I haven't put a pencil to it..just been my experience looking at teams rise or fall in the points based on the out of conference wins by teams on their schedules. The Amherst game is key to the final rankings especially if Amherst can win some games otherwise it will be Giles/Glenvar winner IMO..

Buckingham is flying under the radar a little bit right now. They will likely make some noise this year
