2K4’s Final Top Ten 1A

Dropping down to a top 10, everyone else can start thinking about next year, she is singing!

Three of the teams listed below will play Riverheads this year in the playoffs starting with William Campbell most likely in the Region B finals.

After William Campbell the Region A winner will have their shot at Riverheads. You will get a rematch from last year’s playoffs here with Sussex Central or Essex if they can get past the Tigers.

You could put WP, CB, NHS, or W&L behind the top two Region A teams it does not matter, I prefer West Point or CB because I feel they have the best chance to upset someone.

One team from the West will get a shot and it is down to five teams at the most.

The top eight will be your final eight teams remaining after the second round of the playoffs.

1. Riverheads 7-0 vs Lee 2A defending champs, rolling 2A’s best teams week in week out

2. Sussex Central 6-1 vs Brunswick 2A they are waiting on Essex vs Sussex II

3. Narrows 6-1 vs Craig Co. have a very good team that could beat Galax

4. Essex 6-1 vs Lancaster will have to beat Sussex to get a chance at Riverheads

5. Galax 5-2 vs Auburn everyone’s choice to get to Salem from the West, but I don’t think so

6. Grundy 5-2 vs Pikeville, KY play two 2A teams to end season

7. William Campbell 6-1 vs Dan River 2A only loss to top 2A team. I think they will be in Region B finals?

8. Chilhowie 4-3 vs Eastside is my sleeper that I feel could beat Galax or Narrows

9. Patrick Henry 6-1 vs Honaker will play Chilhowie soon and they will be done

10. West Point 5-1 or CB 4-3

Unfortunately George Wythe will not be participating late into the playoffs this year or for several years to come. There will be a new AD and HC coming it will take a minute to rebuild this program to championship caliber again. The hijacking of the program is going to be costly, I see it taking at least four years to turn it around. It won’t be anytime soon the pieces just are not there. So I am thinking a George Wythe vs Parry McCluer rematch from last year will be a great way to end a 6-5 season. 31-30 PM. Both teams are missing their studs from last year and those Maroon fans like getting rowdy.

Galax vs Ft C video coming soon plus Chilhowie vs GW

I am going with Narrows vs Sussex, I don't know how far off I will be
Could be but I think Narrows weak schedule will hurt them come playoff time when the better teams start showing up. Still a lot of football to be played yet so we'll see how it shakes out.

From your mouth to God's ears! Still a lot of football to play and against better teams than we are playing in order to get there.

You keep talking about a lot of football to play, who is it you think will improve enough to make the list. No one plays any games that will mean anything, a lot of blowouts, you got Chilhowie against PH other than that ...what do you have

Narrows I believe they are as good as anyone in the west, most teams play a weak schedule.
Their are several teams across 1A that play tough schedules and they're usually the better teams come playoff time.

I still have Galax at 2nd over Narrows, Essex and Sussex. In my opinion only, Galax is 10 pts better than Essex and Sussex. They are so much more physical than these two. Not to take away anything from them, and we could debate it forever, and not sure it matters. Riverheads may be as big or even a bigger favorite to win it at the 1A level than Appo is at the 2A level.

The reason I keep saying it is because you've never know with the injury bug. It killed Narrows last month of the season last year and in the playoffs. And I still think if PM gets their act together and brings their A game while Narrows slacks off like the 1st half last week, it could be a rough night.

And looking over the last several years, Narrows has been gutted by Galax's run game worse than anyone.

I bleed green and gold on Fridays but truth be told, GW has the talent if they get their act together, as does PM. Throw in the Galax run game recent history vs Narrows and you will understand why I'm more than a little worried come playoff time.

Please answer honestly. Have you seen Galax, Sussex and Essex all play (in-person) this season?

Galax would not score ten point against Sussex let alone beat them

I'd give ya a hundred on that bet and take Galax. 3A Northside couldn't hold them under 10. I'd like my odds.

Actually I have.

I am just curious as to how someone makes a statement about one team being better or more physical if they haven’t seen the team play.
Which Galax game did you see if you don't mind me asking? I personally haven't seen Essex or Sussex in person so I really don't know how the games would go but I have know doubt they're both really good teams.

I think they are probably going from past representations of them as well. I'm not picking a side here at all. But I would think that given the right game, any one of those teams listed COULD put ten points on any of the other teams listed. High school kids, above all else, are unpredictable.
