For about 2 1/2 quarters, it appeared as if Riverheads and Buffalo Gap might be headed for yet another of the many donnybrooks they have engaged in over the years. RHS had climbed back from a six-point halftime deficit to within 30-27, but the Bison exploded for 10 very quick points, including a pair of Tanner Rivenburg triples from the same spot, and in the blink of an eye the score ballooned to 40-27.

D'ante Gray then scored six quick ones for the Gladiators, hitting his first triple of the season and then adding an old-fashioned to keep the visitors in the game momentarily, but the Bison withstood that challenge and gradually pulled away to a 62-48 Shenandoah District win. After starting the season with close losses on the road to Fort Defiance and Wilson, the Gap seems to have found its mojo as this was their second double-digit win in as many nights after Thursday's 71-46 rout of Stuarts Draft. Riverheads drops to 1-2 on the young season, having lost to Staunton 50-47 before beating Fort Defiance by that same score earlier this week.

Rivenburg led the scoring for the Bison with 22, after being part of an explosive 1-2 punch that laid a whopping 56 points on the Cougars last night. For Riverheads, Gray tied for team-high honors with 14, which bested the career high he had just set for himself on Tuesday. Coach Coffey is no doubt pleased to be getting point production out of the senior guard when hustle and rebounding were the most likely goals coming into the season. Meanwhile Adam Painter matched Gray's 14 tonight and is averaging 18.3 per game through the first three contests. Ryan Farris added 9 tonight as seven of the nine Gladiators who dressed out for the game dented the scoring column.

There will be little rest for the weary for either team as they each face the same opponent in their next outing. The Gladiators will travel to Waynesboro Saturday night for a varsity-only 6:00 tussle with the still winless Little Giants, and the Bison will host that same Purple and Gold Monday night. There was no JV game tonight, and over at Riverheads the Lady Bison pulled out a close 44-40 win over the Gladiators. In that JV preliminary, the unbeaten Lady Gladiators rolled to a 43-25 win.

Saving some good news for last and giving credit where it is due, I had no complaints at all tonight about the livestream, after the first two games of the year had left much to be desired. So let us hope that trend continues as we work through the season.
