I have long hated the VHSL Power Points system as arbitrary and having no basis in statistical theory. I have had an idea to seed the teams much more accurately for a decade, but I just now got around to writing the code to calculate the ratings.
You can read about it here. At the bottom of the article there is a link to see how my system would have seeded the teams this past season. There is another link to a spreadsheet you can play with to see how changes to a team's schedule and division, might effect their rating in this system.
I plan to push for this to implemented starting in the 2016. This year I just want to keep rating teams with it so AD's, players, and fans can see how it works and decide if they like it better than what we do now. It is definitely a better and more mathematically sound method of doing things, but that doesn't mean people will like it, though I hope so.
