Last night, Dinwiddie hosted and honored the 1969 football team. They were fed a delicious pre-game meal, and recognized individually and as a team at halftime.
The reason for selecting the 1969 team was because they were the very first Dinwiddie football team to post a winning record.
Coach Mills readily agreed to allow the Captain of that team to be the honorary Captain for the coin toss. When we told the White Hat what we were doing, he stepped forward and convinced the honorary Captain, Mr Glass, to perform the coin toss. After that was complete, the White Hat, totally on his own, and with now pre-planning from anyone at Dinwiddie, presented Mr Glass with a commemorative coin.
Mr Glass represented himself, his former teammates, and Dinwiddie with class and dignity. Undoubtedly, these were the same attributes that got him selected as one of the teams tri-Captains back in 1969.
One additional thing, Mr Glass was the very first athlete from Dinwiddie to be selected as All State.
I doubt that the White Hat reads post on Virginia Preps, but by chance if you do, thank you for making a special night, extra special for Mr Glass. You are truly an asset to your profession.
