Halifax County senior Andrew Abbott tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Comets to a 2-0 win over Prince George County in a VHSL 5A State semi-final matchup. Abbott, who was name the Gatorade Virginia Player of the year, struckout 11 batters while allowing only two hits.
Abbott also recorded two hits from the plate while addding a walk. The Royals only threat came in the 4th inning when shortstop Tevin Tucker singled then stole 2nd and 3rd base.
Drew Harlow and Josh Baker factored in both Comet runs which was more than enough for Abbott to earn the win. Harlow collected two hits and scored both runs while Baker drove him in with two doubles.
Thee Comets will face the Briar Woods-Menchville semi-final winner for the VHSL 5A State championship.
