Whats your opinion of the upcoming game? Looks like appo handle heritage pretty good last year. I know heritage has improved, but will that be enough? Dont know much about either team.

Our D is tough as it was last year if not better. I am the first to say that I dont think we could replace the D from last year, but we are strong if not stronger. I told yall we have some players come back this year that took a hiatus from football to play other sports. They have filled in and took starting positions on D. Highly talented JV came up that we just didnt have room for last year. We got depth at D. So Heritage will have a tough time scoring especially with the run. The only reason Rustburg score is because we went to a prevent D in last 2 minutes of game and let them get some things working for the underneath. I have never been a fan of prevent. I say play them the same way the entire time. I will say this, we didnt go to our reserves and Rustburg forced us to play out starters the entire game.

Do I think we have what it takes on O? Well we left 2 Big scores off the scoreboard last week. We had 2 wide open passes dropped, one was in the endzone and one was a GO route when Graves burnt his CB by about 5 to 10 yards. We left 14 points off board last week. Them are the type plays we cant give up against Heritage, Union, Richlands, Amherst. We have to get them points when they on the table like that. Our QB now has an element of the game that Matt Page didnt have. His speed! He fast when he gets out the pocket, Matt is fast but not out the gate. Takes him a bit to pick up the steam, lol. I still feel Matt was more accurate with his arm and he gets the ball there quicker but Scruggs will develop that as the season goes on and I have to remind myself, he is a Junior. Scruggs will get more comfortable in the pocket and its going to be lights out. I do wish he would scan to his 3rd and 4th option more though. We have a 4.5/40 guy #18 on the other side with hands as well and he was open in Rustburg game a lot. He could have played varsity last year but we were just so stacked. We have a Junior WR #2 that had not played since 8th grade due to focusing on Basketball only. His mom told me at the game it was her fault and she wished she kept him playing. He can jump out the gym, dunkalogist!!! There is not a person in 2A that will out jumpball these two guys if its thrown up for grabs in the endzone. #18 went to state for high jump. He is an all around talent. Scruggs has some great WRs in this bunch of kids. Lets not forget that Scruggs is behind a line that been there 3 years together, yep! they were starting in 9th and 10th grade. They are only missing All State Matthan Drew (Ferrum).

But to answer ya question, Yes I know we have the talent to beat anyone in the area. So I do see us beating Heritage, there is not anyone on that team that we cant match up side by side with on Appomattox roster. I do fear that lil short LB though for Pioneers. that dude is a bowling ball of heart and destruction. If yall have not seen this 5'5" LB yet, please take the time to watch him play. HE IS AMAZING. I would hate to see this kid 6'1.
