Albemarle vs louisa

Game came down to an Albemarle goal line stand in which they stopped the Lions at the 1 yard line on a 4th and goal from the 4 with 1:30 remaining. My hat's off to the Patriots, great defense by both teams.

My heart pounded the whole game but I don't really feel bad at all. I think having our lineman suspended caught up to us tonight. I was surprised and impressed by how quick Albemarle's HUGE defensive lineman were. I'm just glad we figured out how to play defense or it would've been a blowout. The defense swarmed, might've held Albemarle to negative yards rushing. Big #72 Quinton Ragland had a monster game, really a coming out party for him, finally. I counted at least 6 tackles with many more he was in on. Blundin and Scott of Albemarle each had a big TD catch, which turned out to be the story of the game. I see why Albemarle is now 3-1 and won last week, very impressive defense and sophomore QB J'Quan Anderson will be a good one. I've only seen Albemarle play for 3 years, but this is easily their best defense I've seen.

The biggest upset is Powhatan going down. Hoos you may have been right about Powhatan this season. Congrats to orange and albemarle on two upsets in my little mind. I was impressed with Charlottesville tonight. They are fast and they may make some noise in the district this year. I am still not impressed with the district teams though that I have seen in person. More than likely western only team that could win a few playoff games.

I'm surprised Charlottesville didn't score 50. Must've had more fumbles with Brock still out. But yes they have lots of speed, I wanted to say that weeks ago but I know many folks would've just rolled their eyes. Sophomore QB Rakeem Davis is very fast and very similar to the Northeastern, NC QB who gave Lake Taylor some trouble. This is Coach Sherry's best team out of his five years there, and shout out to @one man for his coaching, too.

Louisa's best offensive lineman #79 Noah Verling left the game on Louisa's second to final play, possibly with a concussion. Just some bad luck with our senior line this year. Thank goodness Fluvanna is next.

Louisa players are being some sore losers on Twitter, SMH. Calling Albemarle soft, saying we should've won, blah blah blah. And these are seniors. Disappointing. We had 1000 chances to win, and couldn't pull it off. Congratulate the other team and move on. Sheesh.

Umm...would not go that far with Charlottesville. But anyways Charlottesville could have score more but they made a lot of mistakes in the game.

Hudl highlights strike again. Sure he had a couple of big plays, but looking at the numbers he had a 68 yard TD run, but finished the game with 44 yards rushing. He was sacked 7 times and knocked out the game a couple of times.

Rakeem Davis is still fast, though. Just as fast as his older brother Rashard, starting WR for JMU. But just like Rashard, his only knock is his size.

@Keith_Stone33 did you make it to the game?
Yep, I was there. Ended up being a pretty exciting game. The QB from Albemarle is quick, he'll be fun to watch for the next few years. At the start of the game I felt that it was going to get ugly in favor of the Patriots as the Lions came out flat, and Albemarle has some athletes on their squad. Albemarle really seemed like the better and more polished team all game to me.

I thought Louisa was going to steal the game when they drove down the field late in the game. They had good field position most of the second half but couldn't capitalize for the most part. There was some interesting officiating going on in my opinion. 3 times in particular: pretty obvious pass interference no call (you could make a case that the one after should have been PI as well); gave the Albemarle QB forward progress and cost about 10 yards of field position; and a play in the first half where they called unsportsmanlike conduct on a Louisa player when the Albemarle player pushed the Louisa players helmet off his head out of bounds (should have probably been a penalty on both of them, but the Albemarle player seemed to be a little more unnecessary to me). I don't want to critique the officials too much, but I think they missed those 3 plays and they made a difference.

AS I said last year, Louisa has the best pep band I've seen thus far in my years of watching high school football in VA.

You are exactly right, Louisa had their chances and they put themselves in a great spot to win the game by driving down inside the 10 late in the game. Albemarle wanted it more on those 4 downs and came up with the big stop. No need to be sore losers about that, should have punched the ball in, and they'd be on the other side of things. Louisa shot themselves in the foot with that false start or whatever the call was when they had like 2nd or 3rd and goal, so yes Louisa had their chances, but Albemarle certainly wasn't soft, especially on that final stand inside the 10.

I understand that Louisa plays smashmouth football (and I love it) but I think they should try to polish that passing game a little bit. One play in particular would have gone for 6 points, but the ball was way underthrown.

I thought the game was going to turn into a blowout early as well, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Well, I didn't wanna bring up the officiating, but since you did, I will too! Yes that no call on the pass interference killed us. The "forward progress" was BS, but we still shut them down on the following play anyway and made them punt. You are right, Albemarle has athletes, more than they've had in years. But people should keep sleeping on them, I'm sure Albemarle wants it that way. That unsportsmanlike was on Albemarle's sideline, so I wasn't surprised about that. It seems there's always that one group of poor officials each night of JD games.

I think there were also two or three more sure TD passes that were overthrown. I do think we should run some more bootlegs on 1st downs. I love the bootlegs out of the I. I can already tell Coach Fischer took that from Bird's Coach Bedwell's book. I'm just glad you got to see a good performance by Louisa's defense. Two weeks ago you would've laughed so hard.

@Keith_Stone33 I know you travel the state and actually watch many teams in multiple classes, so I value your opinions above many others on here. How do you think Albemarle compares to some of the teams you've seen?

Well I thought Albemarle's defense was comparable to Sherando's and better than Courtland's. Defensive line reminded me of Hermitage's of last year. Not very good indeed.

Albemares problem is their offense. Defense is stout, just remember 3a brookville shut them out, and not knocking brookville, but there are going to be better 5a teams in the playoffs. Albemarle will be a bottom seed in 5a playoffs.

Too much hostility. Look it comes down to this what had the JD done against good teams...they lost. Western and Brookville could have gone either way but after that alot of blow outs when our district played teams who are playoff teams.

Albemarle runs a 3-4 defense and has three linemen that each weigh 280, 307, and 320 lbs. and they each rotated to different spots along the line throughout the game. Two of them are seniors, and much quicker/improved from last year. They were simply very tough to get a push against. I'm not sure why it's so hard to fathom that they could be better than Courtland's and Sherando's lines without having seen them play. No team has run the ball against Albemarle this year as well as Louisa did, rushing for over 200 yards, and no team will top that during this regular season. They held Brookville to 40 yards rushing. One of Brookville's scores came on special teams against them, and all their points came in the first half. I'm done talking about them, it's Fluco time.

My point was Brookville shut them out and did not give up a point. Next week Lions will win just a matter of how much. Like I said for us earlier in year if we can keep games close and get better as year progresses then I will feel better about programs direction. We just are not very good we are 0-4 for a reason. When will vhsl start posting points?

I know what you were saying, my post about the defense was for the idiot above. They usually start posting points around week 6 or 7.
Thanks, hoos I really mean no ill will towards you, you mean well and I like reading your posts. I may not agree with you alot but you make good conversations on here about our area. We just disagree where the JD is fight now, and maybe you are right. BTW Norview giving LT all they want tonight. Is Norview a 4a team if so that is another solid 4a team.

Don't make me do moderator work on Friday night at 12:30 when I am getting home from a game and trying to upload photos, gather information and start writing stories, fellas (Hoos and Ham).
