With all the competing events these days and general change toward competing in these games from kids already committed to a school these contests, competition wise, rarely, if ever, represent true all star games anymore. The VHSCA game which I believe was the game you are referring to, used to be played in the summer and coincided with the coaches' clinic. It was a big deal and a very large majority of the best players in the state participated. It was a great event. I am not sure the current version approaches even a decent regular season game. A few of the competing games that have cropped up probably have better talent and most certainly more intensity with the local bragging rights attached. Just my opinion but, the high school all star games( a lot like the non playoff college bowls) have been watered down significantly with the current changing landscape. The one that was held in hamton this past sunday
Nelson committed to Concord ..had many other options including some D1 offers ..Cook hasn't committed yet
Georgetown was the first one to offer....he wants to be close to home and get an education on a free ride so his parents won't have to suffer ...that's a great kid.....look it up if you don't believe me
, better yet here you go Jeremy Nelson
Commits to Concord (DII) over FCS Schools
6’2” 225 – Running Back/Defensive End
Parry McCluer High School Class of 2017
Jeremy has been a high priority recruit for a number of college football teams over the last year and for very good reason. He received scholarship offers from Division I FCS colleges including William & Mary, Georgetown, and VMI. He also received serious interest from ETSU, Liberty and Richmond and could have picked up other offers as well. Concord’s Recruiting Coach Scott McKillop (a former NFL and All-American Linebacker at Pitt) said “Jeremy was a very high priority recruit for us and we are so pleased to get such a high level recruit to choose Concord. Jeremy will also hold a special place in my heart because he is the very first recruit I offered at Concord!” Head Coach Paul Price said “Jeremy is just the type of kid we want at Concord, he is tough, strong, listens to coaching, and can play multiple positions. In addition he is fantastic student with a 3.7 GPA!”
Even though Jeremy was being recruited by so many FCS schools he knew the minute he stepped foot on the Concord campus that this was the perfect fit for him. “I really liked everything about Concord. The campus is beautiful with a laid back atmosphere. I really liked Coach Price and his staff as well as the players on the team. My goal is to become a teacher/football coach and Concord has a great education department. In addition, Concord will be less than an hour from home so my family and friends can get to many games easily and it is an easy commute to mom’s cooking when I need it. In addition, the coaches feel I can become a key player for them on the field and possibly early playing time. I love knowing my education will be fully paid for and can take that potential worry away from my parents.”
Jeremy has earned All-State honors as a running back and was closing on the Virginia all-time career rushing record with 7,410 yards. This year he took on the role of a running and blocking back and helped create holes for his fellow running backs. In addition, he played defense for the first time and immediately showed college coaches he could excel on either side of the ball. Today he played in the Virginia High School Football Coaches Association All-Star Football Game. The weight room is a home away from home for Jeremy; he is known as a weight room beast with 575 lbs. Squats, Deadlifts 500, and Benches 375. In addition he runs a 4.6 forty. He’s a load for any opponent facing in a full speed collision.
I wanted to say Thank You to Jeremy and his family for allowing me to work with him over the last year during his recruiting process. It has been fun communicating with all of you and speaking with college coaches about Jeremy. He is a terrific kid who took recruiting instructions literally and ran with it. He has developed the qualities that are going to make him very successful on the field and throughout his life. Congrats on a great high school career and for reaching your goal of getting a scholarship and playing college football! All the best Jeremy!

LOL... LOL....LOL...... AND BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!I see you're "interested" so let me fill you in. Jeremy Nelson throws shot on the track and field team for Parry McCluer, 3rd in the state last year. He didn't run for Auburn. He filled in at an indoor meet as a SOPHOMORE and ran a 7.2 in the 55. Have you ever seen him run? How often does a full back get in open space in the wing or straight T? He was timed by several colleges running a 4.6 40. The coaches did not speak to media. This was a release made by a great man who helped us sort through the recruiting process after Jeremy verbally committed to Concord. We feel he made a very mature and wise decision that suits his lifestyle accepting a full ride! As far as Athens goes, have you ever been to Riner or Buena Vista? It feels like home to him.. He has always been an honor student so he could've been accepted almost anywhere on an acedemic level. So, I'm sure you've heard the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say..." He chose Concord because he will come out of college not owing a dime, and other reasons too Gator . Georgetown would have been awesome, but Jeremy wants to play offense and they wanted him for defense. Es orange Bring your stop watch to BV any time .Special thanks to everyone who have shown some respect and don't try to put others down.
By the way KJ Cook is one hell of a linebacker no matter what game he's in. He's the best all around athlete I know and he is going places! It's not up to me to post his offers , but I can assure you that he will be just fine like Jeremy .

Good luck to your son at UCLA (University of Concord Lower Athens). I played my first 2 years of college ball there and really enjoyed it. Coach Price was on w/ the defensive side of the ball back then so I didn't get a whole lot of contact with him, but all of the players on that side of the ball had a ton of respect for him. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back in 2017 after a season where they fell short of expectations. The Mountain Empire Conference is a very competitive Division 2 conference and I make it a point to catch a couple CU games a year. And as far as wanting to become an educator in the future, it doesn't get much better than the curriculum offered at Concord. Again, good luck to Jeremy and I look forward to watching him in the maroon and gray over the next 4 years., better yet here you go Jeremy Nelson
