Altavista up 24 7 late fourth.5 turnovers for tigers. It's turn out the lights

Honaker had the ball at the 15 of the colonels and AltaVista forced a fumble returned to the tigers 15 story of the game for them can't beat a good team doing that.

Run the ball...

HR6 must have been calling plays for Honaker.

Passing the ball is what got them in the early hole and passing the ball is what got them blown out in the end.

They had some success running it but continually went away from it to toss in a pass..for entertainment purposes I guess?

Big O-line like that and no desire to use it. PM had the right idea, they just didn't have the horses up front...wanna trade O-lines Honaker?

You cannot throw on a defense as good as Altavista's. Period.

Congrats to the Colonels and good luck next week. Essex vs. Altavista Part II. Should be a good one.

I agree 100% mmqp, Honaker was very big and very strong up front and moved the ball very well on the ground on 1st and 2nd downs then on 3rd down they would attempt a pass and either get intercepted or batted down. Not sure I fully understand the play calling by the Honaker coach, but I guess that's why is the coach and not me.....Colonels did not do a very good job of play selection (IMO) just not there normal....again that's why they are the coachs and not me. Defense did a great job (against a superior front line) and made plays when they had too.

Re: Run the ball...

Speed beats fat boys everytime......congrats Vista!!!!!

Re: Run the ball...

When fall behind. you have to throw ball.

not sure about other divisions but in 1A the 2 best teams in state will be in Salem.

Bulls...

Speed beats fat boys when fat boys try to do something that fat boys shouldn't be doing to begin with.

If you're big up front then RUN THE BALL...EVERY DOWN. Once Altavista or any other team starts stacking the box THEN you run a play action pass to attempt to catch them off guard. Honaker continually found themselves in 3rd and long situations today because they just "had to" throw the ball on 2nd down. Usually on first down they'd run it and pick up 3-4 yards.

HR6 your comment about getting behind? Well..they got behind because they have the same asinine mentality you do..."oh, we HAVE to throw it because..well, that's what they do in the NFL"..

With that said, congratulations to Altavista!

It's the typical "we need to do it this way because..umm..they do it in the NFL" mentality.

Regardless, congratulations to your Colonels! I'm going to try to make it to the state title game on Saturday. We'll see.

One of the biggest problems Altavista had was playing on wet turf with cleats. I heard at half-time most of the kids switched to their tennis shoes. The pass defense was forcing Honaker QB to four interception, two more than he had all year.

Haha I assure you, none of the Altavista players switched to tennis shoes. That would be like putting racing slicks on in the rain for better grip? I did notice Thornhill switched to a shoe with deeper cleats at half time.

I can tell you for a fact Juan did not, I know what those cleats he had on are, and what they are not is basketball shoes. They could be mistaken for them, as they have a similar design. In fact all the players you listed have the same type of cleats, they are called Under Armour Highlights if I'm not mistaken. As someone who has experience on wet field turf, the last thing I would do is put on tennis shoes.

Re: Bulls...

As should teams that abandon the run and start throwing just because it's "en vogue" to do so.

Re: Bulls...

Why? Because you don't like it? Maybe teams that pass all the time should lose. Maybe you should join a flag football league. Seems like you want to keep it soft. You want to play badminton, play it, but lets keep the game of football the way it is supposed to be. It's a physical sport. You sound like you want it to be a bit more dainty.

Re: Bulls...

HR6, sounds like you have been out in the rain too long. My advice, stay at home this coming weekend and listen to the games on the radio..............

personally I think the game plan was to stick to the run (occasional pass ) but second half down 17 points u cant use up most of quarter per drive to recover from 17 point deficit.therefore u needed something quicker and that just didn't happen due to the ground thornhill covered and the rest of secondary.AV played good ball and defense come thru big.
