I hesitate to even mention this, because I don't follow the girls as carefully and goodness knows you can't count on the papers to keep us informed, but I think I know enough about their tournament to at least mention it. It also starts tonight, and also the games will be played at the home court of higher seeds. In two cases I believe the games will be played as doubleheaders with boys games.

# 8 Riverheads at # 1 Wilson: The Hornets needed a win on the final night to clinch the regular season and they got it. Riverheads needed two late-season wins to make the tournament field so considering their seed, they are indeed playing their best ball of the year. This will be a 6:00 game, preceding the boys game between the same two schools.

# 7 RE Lee at # 2 East Rock: Don't know much about either, other than ER is good year in and year out. This too will be a doubleheader as the Eagles also host a boys game, as mentioned in the other thread. No idea which is first.

# 6 Stonewall at # 3 Buffalo Gap: The Bison are no doubt a formidable team, because going into the final night of the regular season, they could have forged a three-way tie with a win at Wilson. So their fans will likely come out in full force for this one, since the boys team is finished for the season.

# 5 Stuarts Draft at # 4 Page: This is a rotten luck kind of situation for both teams, as their boys will be playing one another simultaneously at Stuarts Draft, thereby forcing fans from both schools to make a decision about where they want to go. I would assume that this will be a toss-up kind of game, given the closeness in the standings. Cell phones will likely be humming all night long in both places!!!

Once the teams move into the semi-finals next week, the schedule does alternate nights so that fans will not have to make the boy/girl choice.

Good luck to one and all!
