Annual Top 100 VA college prospects from the Roanoke Times

The guy who puts this list together has no clue. CJ Jackson graduated last year. The 5A Region B Offensive Player of the Year isn’t anywhere on the list with 5 D1 offers.. Lamareon James (who signed with UNC Chapel Hill originally) # 84 in Virginia? A wise man once said.. FAKE NEWS!

Seems that Javon Swinton and Tyler Savage are on the list twice in the top 100 and Matei Fitz is not in the top 25 for the rising juniors. I like a lot of the names on the list though.
You can tell it’s biased to the area. I can think of 6 guys in the Richmond area alone that is no where on the list so you know there’s kids in NoVA and 757 that got “shafted”. 4 that comes to mind is Shemar Graham from Thomas Jefferson (2A Defensive Player of the year, First team all metro), Varina’s Isiah Paige (committed to Kent State but decommited; holds offers from JMU, Robert Morris, UMass, Coastal Carolina, etc.), Varina’s Alonzo Ford (has offers from Boston College, Army, Syracuse, ODU, JMU, East Carolina, etc.), and Varina’s Lorenz Terry (committed to UVA). All no where on the list. PATHETIC.. Highland Springs has a couple of guys left off as well. @HooSprings could probably fill us in.

Also NO DRESEAN KENDRICK OR SHAWN WATLINGTON????? This list is garbage!

The bug takeaway from this list. Only 2 players are signed to play for VT and UVA .

The guy who made the list is too misinformed to put them on there. Lorenz Terry, 6’6 245 stud DE from Varina, is headed to UVA in 2020. Had offers from UMass, Florida and a few others. Laughable that he and a few others aren’t on a list that is supposed to be “legit”.

I do agree with bceagle47, I do like “some” of the kids names on there. List is garbage, but at least it’s not smelly :)

Where the Heck is DreSean Kendrick??
*Stephen A Smith voice* DOWN RIGHT BLASPHEMOUS!!! I MEAN COME ONNNNNNN!!!! YOU TELL ME A PLAYER WITH 10+ D1 SCHOLARSHIPS, TITAN TROPHY, WSET PLAYER OF THE YEAR, LED HIS TEAM TO BACK TO BACK REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS APPEARANCES??? DIDN’T MAKE THE LIST??? I’M HAVING A REAAAAL BAD DAY, A REAL BAD DAY!!! :D

But I agree bro. Just to advocate for our 434 boy’s I think Holden Frentz, Dresean, Watlington and Graves should all be on the list if you put some of the guys who are on the list. Glass has the most offers on team west of Richmond. I mean come on man? Glass’s offensive and defensive line (Merriman, Frentz, Ayers, Wheat) has 20+ offers when you add them all up. Kendrick puts it well over 30.

My guys Wesley and Shawn have 7 offers between them both and Shawn has 3 D1 offers from William and Mary, UMass, and Howard.

Louisa has Alex Washington with 3 D1 offers and Jarrett Hunter with 4 D1 offers.

Thing is, a lot of the kids in the latter of the rankings will play D3 football. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, there are high level kids who play D3.. I played D3 ball for 3 practices and got my azz kicked and couldn’t make the cut so I’m no way trying to throw off!! But if you’re going to make a college prospect list, please include your best of the best!!! And be informed!!!

The Guys you named definitely deserved to be on there. His list is always very Roanoke biased. His list used to mean a lot back in the day, but not now. Crazy

Yeah he’s definitely one of the ones who said Lamar Jackson was a running back/wide receiver in the NFL.

Isaiah Stephens from LB made the list twice... #38 and #53.

This list is terrible at best. Keeping up with and ranking kids from all across the state can be a task. I get it!!! Now if you’re going to take on that task please don’t have egregious errors. Kids names twice, kids that have already graduated listed, kids down for the wrong high schools like these errors are unacceptable. Like any list they are someone’s opinion and judging by this list this person doesn’t know much about the landscape of football in the state. Newton 19th is a joke. Kid has size, grades, and offers so it can’t one of those as the reason he’s ranked low. Also kids that didn’t even play this year are listed ahead of him. Smh

Newton's ranking isn't even that egregious compared to others. 247 composite has him as 15th in the state. https://247sports.com/Season/2021-F...ankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=VA

Let's look at Jay Woolfolk at 10. UVA commit with two other offers (Marshall and UMass).

22nd on composite
31 on 247 individual ranking https://247sports.com/Player/Jay-Woolfolk-46085791/
22 on Rivals

Spoiler alert: Doughty is the UVA beat writer for the RT. This is just one of several rankings that are wildly out of sync with the composite. 10th in VA is good for a 4* ranking whereas 22 is low-to-mid 3* which, shocker, is where 247 and Rivals (and later likely ESPN) has him.

Doughty also knows nothing about local or state-wide HS football, for whatever reason this ranking was given to him years ago and that's why he does it. Robert Anderson is the guy who does HS football (and he's damn good at it, his predictions are extremely accurate and if you could bet HS games you'd make a fortunate with them). It's just some carryover from pre-internet times when the only other way you knew about recruiting was SuperPreps mailing lists so a writer could basically spew out names in essentially any order and there's nobody to check them on it.
