Any updates on Glenvar, Gretna, and Graham scrimmage?

I do not know about this, but question if Graham might have been holding out in the Richland's jamboree as their rivals in Bluefield and Richland's were watching. I certainly do not know, but one thing is clear. Glenvar is the defending state champ and returns many starters. Gretna is also very talented despite last year's horrific season for them. They will be or should be much improved. It would be very tough to play these two schools either even, or in this case, get the best of both of them and not be a pretty good team. Additionally, of Grahams 4 scrimmaged teams, 50% (2 of 4) are defending state champions. I suspect Graham was holding back a bit in Richland's and to be clear, Belfry is the favorite in KY to win a third straight title and Glenvar is right there with Richland's as favorites to repeat for the title in Va. It would be interesting to know how the flow of the Graham and Glenvar game went. Meaning....did Glenvar turn over 3 times but outgain Graham or double them up in total yards to help the score go 7 to 6 in favor of Graham? Or....did Graham turn over and heavily outplay Glenvar and the score should have been 21-6 instead of 7-6. A scrimmage game score does not mean much. Who pushed who off the ball and who stopped who on D and who ran up lots of yards means more.

I was very impressed with Graham, specially the ability of the QB to scramble. That is how they got most of their yardage especially on the drive that scored near very end of the scrimmage. Glenvar's defense looked "flat" and played without much emotion. Graham played intense like they were in the state championship game (good for them). I had the feeling that Graham played up to their potential for a preseason game while Glenvar for the most part didn't show up except the qb who looked real good with his passing. They have to be a lot better than they showed based on the players they have. I don't know the stats but both teams moved the ball pretty well between the 20's for such a low scoring scrimmage. I would say Graham is going to have a very good year based on what I saw

Graham took Gretna apart. At one point they were up 3 scores and Gretna scored at the end against what was probably Grahams 2nd defense I' guessing.

Glenvar was also up 2 scores on Gretna most of the scrimmage and Gretna got one near the end against alot of 2nd stringers. Game got real chippy and a Glenvar and Gretna player got tossed for fighting. Couldn't see what happened as everything was under the pile. Doubt the refs saw it either. Thought the actions of the Gretna player after the players were separated was pretty low class as he kept walking back on the field and gesturing and mouthing off over and over again while they were sorting things out. If the coach has to deal with that at Gretna on an everyday basis I feel sorrry for him.

In the Glenvar-Graham game, I thought Glenvar missed some passes that should have been caught.

I never pay much attention to scrimmage results.

Glenvar definitely missed on some opportunties and I know they didn't show much. The only reason I pay attention to scrimmages is because I am football starved and I will eat up just about anything. lol

First quarters were supposed to be first string and second quarter second string. Graham took most of first quarter on one drive that had 45 yards of penalty yards against Gretna, twice on 4th down stop. they scored after two 15 yard penalties took ball from 35 to 5 yard line. One clear facemask on us then a targetting call on hit on rb. Gretna brought jv for second string minus 8th graders. Some of these players were backup jv since have several 8th grade starters including qb. They were really out matched and gave up 2 or three scores. Glenvar went up two scores against Gretna before Gretna scored. Glenvar went up by two again then Gretna scored right back. Starters played both quarters for both team , seen same numbers on players playing at end of game that started. Glenvar game definitly got chippy and very competitive for scrimmage. Dont know what happened in the injection. Gretna and Glenvar player went out of bounds and could tell something got started but quickly got surrounded by sea of green on there sidelines. Dont think refs could see anything either. Only player ejected was Gretna player. He kept yelling at refs n claimed he got punched several times by several Glenvar players but who knows no one could see nothing. Think Glenvar started flat against Graham but appeared to me to be the best team there. Was proud of how hard we played them. Specially after coming off 1-9 season.

If the play had not been on Glenvar sideline, it would not have escalated to what it did.[/QUOTE

Hampton. What did you see that I didn't see? Are you saying Glenvar players are more "thuggish" than Gretna? I was right there and there was nothing initiated from the Glenvar players or coaches on the sidelines. If anything the Glenvar coaches did a good job of stopping the skirmish from getting worse.

I agree. Gretna looked pretty good. More speed and much better toughness than last year. If I were a Gretna fan I would be excited to see how far they go this year.
