Curious to hear if anyone knows much about volleyball.

In Region D, Union is very, very good. Who's good in Reg. A-C?

Madison Co is 20-1 and just secured a region spot. Play George Mason in district championship Tuesday. Will host a first round region game Thursday I think.

Appomattox just lost their first game of the year last week to Gretna. We beat them twice this year but one girl was out with injury but should be cleared now.
Not sure of overall record but they only have one loss.
Hope they can make a nice run!

The Region C bracket is posted. Giles beat Fort Chiswell last night. Glenvar beat James River. Not sure on any other games. But I think round 2 is tonight. Radford and Appo had a bye in round 1.

Does Madison still support its volleyball as rabidly as they once did? Six or eight years ago, they came to Riverheads for a regional match, and I could not BELIEVE the size and intensity of the crowd they brought. It made it look like more of a college basketball atmosphere.

As for current action in this area....Wilson and East Rock have been the dominant programs this year and the Eagles won their rubber match last night in four sets. They had each won previously on the other's floor and last night they continued that pattern with East Rock winning in Fishersville to capture the Shenandoah District tournament title.

They will each advance to regional play and could meet again, depending on who else is out there. However, the paper said that each suffered a key injury last night, and volleyball having the limited number of players that it does, I guess any injury can be crucial to a team.

On the 1-A level, Riverheads swings into regional action Thursday, hosting Willliam Campbell.

Also in C, Gretna beat Buckingham and Chatham beat Dan River. Gretna travels to Nelson tonight and Chatham goes to Appomattox.

In 1A, Riverheads should have no problem with William Campbell

Madison beat George Mason 3-0 to win district tournament and number one seed in region. The gym was absolutely packed tonight. Very similar to our basketball games. Looking forward to region play.

I was told that Gretna and Radford will be at Floyd County.

(I had forgot about cross bracketing, that's good)

Madison defeated Stuart’s Draft 3-0 tonight. They will host on Tuesday. Not sure who opponent will be.

Giles and Radford will play on Tuesday at Floyd. This will be the third meeting of these two. Radford took the first two pretty easily.

Madison Co defeated East Rock 3-0. MC will host George Mason in the Region B Championship on Wednesday. Mason defeated Wilson 3-0.

East Rock and Wilson had torn up the Shenandoah this season, so for Mason and Madison to post those shutouts, they must each be pretty darn good.

Radford hosts Lebanon in the west. Union hosts Giles. No idea on Union record, but I know the other three have had pretty solid seasons. Radford's being the most impressive.

@BigWinners or @Union_Fan can confirm, but I don't believe Union has lost a game all year in state except to maybe 3A Abingdon?

Union has defeated Lebanon all three times they have faced this year. I do know that much.

Watch out for Poquoson...they have a sophomore who is/will be a legit D1 prospect.

As far as I know that is correct. Lost to Abingdon in the first meeting, won the 2nd meeting, regular season tie-breaker, and tournament championship.

Madison will host Poquoson tonight (Tuesday) at 6:00 in the state semifinals. If tonight is anything like usual, expect a large, raucous crowd. Looking forward to seeing the Poquoson team. Should be a great match up.

Drinking already, Marshall? It's "Poquoson"...keep your eye on #8...just having a little fun w/you!

Spellcheck didn’t like the correct spelling. If I did drink, I could use that as an excuse. But I don’t!

Looking forward to seeing #8 (and the rest of the team) tonight. MC usually has a tremendous home court advantage. The fans are loud, creative and a bit boisterous. Some might say obnoxious ala Duke basketball fans at Cameron. But are seriously respectful of good play. I recall one time versus Mason that they gave the Mason server an ovation due her tremendous serves.

Sounds like a great atmosphere...the Islanders will need their A game to have a chance...good luck and enjoy!

The game is at 6:00...I misread the message on the school site.

I think all teams need their A games at this point. Come on up...I’ll save you a seat and spring for the popcorn!

MC is 24-1 so far.

Very true...thanks for the invite, but a trip like that on a weeknight is virtually impossible for me.

MC won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-16. Then went up 24-20 in the third and was looking like a sure shot to make the finals. HOWEVER, Poquoson rallied to take that set 27-25. Then won the fourth 25-20. The fifth was a back and forth nail biter. Poquoson won 15-13 to advance to the ‘ship. Good luck to the Islanders!

And they will play Radford for the championship as they downed Union 3-0. Bobcats eliminate the Bears for the 2nd year in a row. Good luck to both teams Friday!

Wow, after getting behind like that, an improbable win for Poquoson and gut wrenching loss for Madison...makes you wonder if they're destined to win the championship? We'll find out Friday...good luck to the Islanders...great season, Madison!

That Poquoson win sounds like the classic case of it ain't over until it is over. I cannot imagine how the Madison fans must have felt after that one.

It was tough to say the least. But gotta give the islanders credit for not rolling over. They we’re magnanimous victors. And more importantly, the MC girls were very gracious in a tough defeat.
