Having a boring day today so why not get some dialogue going? Baseball is actually my least favorite sport of the "big three" but I still go to some games and try to keep up.
However, having said that, I honestly don't remember who advanced how far in the Shenandoah last year. And of course this year we will have five teams competing in 2-A when playoffs roll around and the remaining three (Riverheads, Luray and Stonewall) competing at the 1-A level.
To the best of my knowledge, last year East Rock, Page and Riverheads all had decent seasons with maybe Luray factoring in as well. I think SD, Wilson, Gap and Stonewall would have then been the bottom four, but don't quote me.
So who will have what this year? I know that Riverheads has one ace pitcher returning in Colt Miller with his twin brother his battery mate. Beyond that they may have to rebuild the pitching staff and also they lost some heavy hitters to graduation. Still, Coach Painter gets the best out of what he has every year so I will expect them to challenge again.
East Rock seems to come up with strong pitching year after year, as does Page. So I would expect the two of them to be in the mix again also. Beyond that I have no idea.
At the risk of contradicting myself, soccer is gaining in popularity, at least at Riverheads, so my "big three" comment above might not be that accurate these days. I do know that the Gladiators return some quality talent and will be very optimistic about their season.
Any other thoughts?
