Wondering if Lancaster will ever compete in football for championship I know Essex will

No. They have the athletes but not the mindset or enough good coaches. In football, one coach can't do it by himself, need 3 or 4 quality assistants who can put in the time and work.

I agree and the coaches are a very important part to being a winner not knocking the one they have now but I can’t remember the last time Lancaster was 1-9

2001 Lancaster went 0-10. Only scored 87 points and allowed 528 that year. Wishing you guys the best.

Are you sure 2001 ? With kaveh conaway at QB, I thought they won like 5-6 games

Not having a youth football league in Lancaster hurts too. Unfortunately Northumberland will be seeing the same effects after next season as the seniors on the team were the last of Northumberlands youth program. Not having the youth program really shows in both jv programs this year as I believe they both only won, one game each. It is a shame as rappahannock, essex,cb, and I believe w&l still have youth programs.

Yes a youth program would be nice around here I think there all focused on basketball now a days and not focus on the football as in past years but I would be nice to see Lancaster going to state in football and maybe winning it all

To win in football it takes commitment-plain and simple. You can't just show up in August (on the first day of practice or the Monday before the first scrimage) and get a helmet and expect to win games. You can't routinely have half of the team miss practice 2 to 3 days a week and expect to win games. Administration MUST have the back of the coaches. Coaches, parents and administration must set the expectations for kids to not merely show up every day but work and work hard. All the athletes and speed in the world doesn't matter if they can't commit to the weight room in the off season and commit to the team during the season. Coaching is irrelevant if players know they won't be held accountable for missing practices. Until changes are made in the BIG offices don't expect playoffs.....much less State Championships.....

Everyone had an excuse to miss a practice and some coaches and admin look the other way or believe they can't win without player "a". They look the other way or find an excuse to sell to the other adults and players which leads to more absences, tardies, excuses for another kid, etc, etc, etc. Not realizing that the only lesson being taught is how to destroy a winning culture which then permeates through a building and or community. Everyone wants rules enforced except when it's their kid.

If players don't come to practice then they don't play. Period. I don't care how good they are or what the sport is. Any coach or admin that allows this is building a house in quicksand. It might look ok for a little bit, but eventually it will all crumble. Go 0-10 with kids that come to practice and work hard. You won't regret it or have trouble looking your players in the eye. More importantly, it will be the foundation that success can be built on. Some admin and coaches don't have the resolve necessary to do this. And if they don't then they should move on.
