By the weatherman. looks as if he missed it for today. Everyone could have played tonight, if they didn't play last night.

Perhaps in SWVA, but in the northern part of the state, playing last night was a good decision. It will be a slopfest for any teams playing on grass up here tonight.

Heck if we had a baseball tonight, I would not have given up hope yet. (if field has good drainage)

Roads 6 I can't speak for everyone but I know Giles it would still have been a no go. The field is basically covered in water. I will say probably worst I have ever seen it. Just impossible to play on it as this point.

The "weatherman" got it pretty well correct for the state overall today. Some bands starting to build back into the Roanoke Valley right now and the heavy plume of moisture feeding into the south central part, this feed of heavy rains will eventually cover the western half later overnight into tomorrow morning.

Teams made the right call. HR6 you must not have been out after 5pm in your beloved Lynchburg area tonight. I was driving through Buckingham, Appomattox, Lynchburg, Cumberland, and Powhatan tonight at the time teams (and fans) would be traveling to and from games, the conditions were not good. Lots of wind and heavy rain at times, plus a few roads had potential for hydroplaning.

I was only going with weather in the Gretna Metro area.
I'm all for looking out for the kids and fans travel safety if there's a winter storm going on with lots of snow falling and predicted to continue. That's common sense. But football can be played in the rain, and should be. If fans don't want to make the trip and sit in rain for a few hours, so be it. Stay home. I'm not saying games should never be postponed for rain. I've seen the devastation of flooding. If there is a good threat of wide-spread flooding in a particular area, by all means, postpone. I guess the timing of this was the worst thing, with most schools already altering their schedules next week because of the Tech game. Just made a bad situation, worse.

So the weather and fields were in great shape yesterday for the Gretna area? How many tickets did Gretna sell before the game? M

I think you might be unaware of some of the decisions that go into the process of postponement of a game. Sometimes it is out of the hands of the coach and AD. Each school system has a superintendent that can make the final call on transportation. Many schools in the central VA area called school and had early release yesterday due to high water on roads. At that point it is not about the game, its about what is right for everyone. Second, most high schools do not presell game tickets, and the threat of the first raindrop will cut potential revenue from ticket sales and concession in half. With the way budgets are these days... Unlike college and pro football games, they have already sold their tickets and the game goes on. Why would a HS team move their game due to a VT game? So what if VT plays on Friday, DVR it and watch it later. Does VT only fill their stands with just HS players and fans from the local area? I did not understand that concept when everyone one in the Jefferson did that last week for when UVA played on Friday.

Besides the gates no one is considering field conditions and the fact it's not safe to play on them or Fair to either team to have to. Not to mention the destruction it would do to a field to play on one in these conditions. Some people and some schools might not care, some schools do. There is more then one game to think about during a season. Giles field right now is nothing short of a swamp. It would be impossible to play on it. Warm ups would not even be possible, someone would get hurt.

Piz Hokies MANY people from those local surrounding areas whether it be UVA or Tech are season ticket holders and it's a courtesy deal and an incredibly smart decision to move the high school games. Many people will choose the college game over the high school for the fact that they have already paid for tickets, parking passes, etc.

So instead the high schools move the games back a day an instead of taking a huge hit when it comes to gate fee they generally do a little better. It's smart business management essentially by the schools.
