The start of district play gets underway this weekend and with a hurricane on the way who can tell when the games will be played! Things are shaking up with some of the bottom teams improving and a change in the top spot! Here goes my rankings after half way through the season!
# 1 KING GEORGE 4 @ 1: Yep you got it after 5 weeks the foxes deserve this spot. Coach Jeff Smith has done a great job with his troops lead by Jordan Alley and the development of QB Deon Williams and receivers Isaiah White and Ashton Howard being forces to deal with. Their defense with the weak schedule hasn't been tested with the exception of the Louisa game and the lions will test any defense! KG number 1 this week!
# 2 CHANCELLOR 3 @ 2: Well after last nights loss to a good James River team what can you say! This team is ticking me off! loaded with plenty talent and D1 players this team is not playing together! These seniors are not playing like a senior dominated team and they are the same old Chancellor team of old up and down up and down with no consistency! Over the years they have had talented players like Dominique Wallace Rodney Woodward Melvin Davis and many more and make the playoffs and fall flat on their faces by under achieving and end up home! Its time for this team to man up! Some of these seniors need to grab a few by the collar and challenge them to ship up or ship out! This team has more talent than any district team and get out and show it in the field like when they beat Ponax! Talk is cheap and all the publicity about all the talent and D1 players is nothing but hog wash if it is not proven on the field! come on chargers you are better than this so get out there and show it!
# 3 James Monroe 4@ 1: The Jackets have won 4 in a row since the opening loss to a great Dinwiddie team. Its hard to judge them as their competition has been most less than average teams. IMO they have two holes in their schemes their defense and believe it or not their passing game. No I'm not crazy the jackets seem to be lacking in their passing game! They have a excellent sophomore QB with a excellent arm but seems not to be able to hook up with their receivers! They have a excellent running game lead by Divyne Ford AJ Johnson who are quick and strong! Their defense gave up a lot of yardage last night almost 250 yards rushing by Essex but with the help of a bunch of Essex turnovers bent but didn't break! They had only 5 yards passing and did you ever think you would see a modern JM team with that few yards passing? I stated after the Dinwiddie game I predicted coach Serbay would have his team in contention by mid season and here they are. It remains to be seen how they will do against good teams like Chancellor and KG? will those good teams pack the box and make them throw to beat them? In a few weeks we shall see as yes the Jackets are improving.
# 4 COURTLAND 2 @ 3:The Cougars seem to be improving with wins over Fauquier and Liberty. Seems to be the bug a boo for Courtland this season has been their offense and you can see why as they lost everything to graduation on offense this year! Their defense has been pretty good keeping them in most games but with a lot of players playing both ways and the lack of offense keeping the defense on the field has taken its toll. They may beat Caroline and Spotsy but cant see them any chance to beat anyone else in the district! 4 and 6 will be a good season for JC and the cougars and they will be much better next season.
# 5 Caroline 1 @ 4: How about them Cavaliers! Stopped a record 23 game losing streak last night by giving Antron Yeates his first win at Caroline! So happy for Yeates and those kids down there as no one has suffered as much as them with coaching changes and transfers etc. Keep saying what a good coach Yeates is and hope the Caroline administration parents and fans hang with him and he will turn that program around. There are a lot of talented kids in Caroline and with but one HS in the county no reason for them to play like they have. Yeates is very likable and will get those kids out! Congratulation to the Cav's on a great win and now you finally have that monkey off your back!
# 6 SPOTSY 1 @ 4: Wanted so bad to rank my boys from post oak out the basement with that good win over W@ L but I feel the cavaliers are a tad better! It was a well needed win for Spotsy but the W@ L team was without 3 defense starters! Still a win is a win and take them any way you can! Spotsy has had trouble on the defensive side of the ball but with the help of Tim Coleman with the wing T their offense has been better! We shall see how much the team is improving as they play KG and the stronger teams in the district!
That's its folks a new number 1 this week and lets see how long KG will stay on top. Season is half gone and before long we will be discussing playoff scenarios. Get out and support your favorite team! Ain't HS football great!
