Well here we go again another great season of HS football and my fearless rankings! I have seen most the district teams scrimmage and as of now it seems the new kid on the block is by far the top of the list! Here we go!
# 1 Eastern View: The View seems to be on the way to a great season like last year. They demolished their country rival Culpeper 56 to 7. This very talented team with many starters returning was lead by D'Ago Hunter with 3 TD's and Trey Holmes and a big defensive effort 4 turnovers! It's going to take a major effort to knock off these cyclones!
# 2 Courtland: wow how can I pick a team that lost 41 to 7 to Louisa # 2 ?? That Lion team is stacked with much talent some D1 and probably one of the best teams in the state! Saw the cougars beat a good Mountain View team in a scrimmage and have plenty of talent. They have two pretty good QB's in senior Donavan Gill and JR Shyheem Lewis who I feel will end up being the starter for courtland! Lewis was very impressive in the scrimmage against Mountain View running and throwing and has great speed! Look for courtland to bou
nce back this Friday!
#3 Jm: Jackets fell behind 21 to 0 to a much improved Stafford team! They rallied to pull within 28 to 14! Have no fear Jm fans Serbay will make the adjustments and be stinging by mid season!
# 4 King George: the foxes took a licking Friday as the visited a tough Tuscarora team and got beat 35 to 0. Saw the foxes scrimmage Thomas Stone team out of Maryland and they have a lot of talent but are young and will jell by mid season! A very big team but looks like they will have a tough time against a quick team! My old buddy Jeff Smith will have them ready in a short time!
# 5 Spotsy: I know I'm a little bias but I really feel my boys from post oak look like they are much better than last year! They was our TV game Friday and after a slow start in the first half coach Jack made some adjustments and they played much better in the second half and beat a pretty good Colonal beach team in OT 17 to 14. One thing that the Spotsy fans saw was something we haven't seen since Tim Coleman left 15 years ago,a coaching staff that three veteran coaches together for years! In years past the knights would have been doomed and lost a game like this! We finally saw a defense that tackle well and gang tackled! Things at post oak are finally looking up with a excellent staff lead by Jeremy Jack ! One game don't make a season but finally the knights look organized after the slow start in the second half!
#6 Caroline: hard to judge the cavaliers after Friday night trouncing from a good Jr Tucker out of Richmond! I love coach Antron Years but this is his fourth season at the helm and time now for Caroline to make a move! Caroline had a good pre season and 7 on 7 competition and there are plenty of athlete's on Caroline so now they need to get on the stick. One school in Caroline county so they need to take advantage of that and get good kids out and make a improvement in that program.
#7 Chancellor : Never thought I would be ranking the chargers this low but when you lose what they did through graduation and transfers poor new coach Jeff Glesner has his hands full this time! To add to insult to injury their starting QB Hunter Kozlow broke his arm against ponax in the first Quarter! Saw him play in a scrimmage against Lafayette and he really looked good! They played fairly well in the Lafayette scrimmage but coach Glessner has his hands full this season!
There you go fans my standings after week one and the bottom three teams could jockey back in fourth all season long! Eastern View is far and above the rest so far but it's early and my buddies JC Hall and Rich Serbay are famous for development of teams and this year should be no different! Let's have a good year and enjoy HS football!
