Well the regular season ended last night and the final rankings have pretty much taken care of itself as all the teams ranked next to each other played last night. the season ended pretty much like I expected as JM and courtland was far and above the rest of the district. the only disappointed team in the district that I thought would give the top two a run for the money was king George and they had a offensive team that could play with the big two but their porous defense never developed.
here is the way I pick the final 2014 rankings and their outlook next season:

# 1 COURTLAND: after last night how can you not pick the cougars not the top of the field! but let me say this they are just a hair better than JM, the defense being the difference. last night that three headed monster ran through the jacket defense just like I expected because all year they did this to all their opponents except the first game of the year against ponax. this is a well oiled offensive football team that I feel sorry for the teams they play to try and prepare for their offense. who you going to key on they have three that can completely control the game. their defense may be their weakness but it didn't show that much last night as they let JM score three offensive td's and one on the special teams. I remind you JM is a powerful offensive team also. they will be a hard out in the playoffs and good luck cougars!

2015 outlook: the cougars will be fighting it out next year also as they return the same nucleus as this year. they lose one of the three headed monsters anton Jenkins and 3 0f their offensive linemen. but they will make up for that loss in the passing game as the excellent receiver honkenson that was hurt most of the year will join excellent receiver nick grant with the good qb allen making them a excellent passing team. oh no district can they be any better than this year? i'm afraid so.and even bad news they lose only 3 on defense. but they will have to replace most of their offensive line. good team next season also!

# 2 JAMES MONROE: the jackets had a gallent effort last night and have nothing to hang their heads!
they played a whale of a game against a great team courtland and imo will go far in the playoffs. just a tad under courtland with their rushing defense their only hold back. its hard to say when you give up 400 yards on the ground they played good but look who got those yards. a team that has the best rushing team in the state and probably won't face another as good even in the playoffs. jm's offense can beat anyone and they will go a long ways in the playoff and might be in Lynchburg come December! good luck jackets as you advance on in the playoffs! feel proud the way you played last night as you still are a heck of a team!

2015 outlook: went to the jv championship game today and I hate to tell you but the baby jackets won the championship 40 to 7 against king George. that jv team was 11 and 0 with some great looking athletes. talking to serbay he said if it wasn't for the good receivers etc some of those players would have been on the varsity and I believe it. they lose the great qb scroggins Isaac evans and the d1 prospect Keyshawn Johnson but bring back good receiver leacock and with those freshmen and sophomore receivers and qb I saw on the jv team they will be almost as good as this years team. they return their entire o line with the exception of pete seftas. they lose some db's but the vast majority of the defensive will be back lead by that beast wynn coleman lb matt abel and a healthy gary boxley. their will not be much of a drop off in the jackets next season I promise. good luck JM as you start the playoffs Friday!

#3 CHANCELLOR: they were a very young team this year but after that tough schedule they got a lot of experience and won 3 0f the last 5 games and took JM to the wire before losing. they have imo the best qb in chancellor history Jason brown who as a sophomore had a great year with 5 td's against KG last night. after beating KG they are the third best team in the district and coach oliver deserves a lot of credit for holding the young team together after a rough start and being a good team by the end of the year.

2015 outlook: the chargers as I said was young this year and they will be better next season but not quite in the class of JM and courtland imo. they will return all but 3 on offense lead by Jason brown and Mario wisdom and a up and coming receiver Emanuel Jenkins who had 3 td catches last night. they had just 8 seniors this year some not playing and return all but 3 on defense. yes the chargers are on the rise and lets hope with the new scheduling cycle they won't schedule that horrendous schedule they had the past 2 years. good luck chargers as you will return that old charger pride next season.

#4 KING GEORGE: talked with coach jeff smith today at the jv game as he was high on next season fox team. they also had a young team this year and he said they was plagued all year with injuries on the defense. they had a offense was really good until jecolby white got hurt and came back only about 80% the last couple games. he had some nice looking jv players also as they finished second to jm in the jv championship game. the foxes imo will not be quite in the class of JM and courtland and probably not be able to overtake chancellor next season but with injuries and transfers who knows. smith is a excellent coach and has brought a awful KG program back to respectability. good luck KG FOXES next year!

#5 SPOTSYLVANIA: The boys from post oak had a nice win last night against a 0 and 10 caroline team. the knights record since coleman left is awful under the past two head coaches. they have not beat but 1 team since the 2000 year with a winning record since they beat chancellor 5 years ago in a game that dominic Wallace could not play because of injuries. most the wins the last 6 years have been against teams with no wins or 1 or 2 wins. this program is no way being built as it has been stuck in sand since coleman left. next season will be no better as they have very little talent returning.

2015 outlook: the knight offense loses about everything next year with the exception of Michael Shelton who is threatening to transfer along with some more next year. ony 5 on a very anemic offense return and the defense only 4 on one of the worst defenses in the district. if the coach and the staff isn't replaced next year nothing will change out there as if you do the same old thing all the time you will get the same old results all the time. the parents have expressed their displeasure with the coaching out there and the parents have complained to the school board but the principal refuses to replace him. also the team threatened to have a walk out but felt sorry for the seniors to finish the year so it didn't take place! that was the right choice imo as I didn't want to see that. the question I have is why the coach would wan't to stay there in those conditions? lets hope he decides to resign but I don't wan't him to lose his job as no one deserves to lose his livelihood! this time if it happens I hope the principal hires a veteran coach that has built programs before like some of the ones that we in the boosters club had apply 6 years ago and never got interviewed! this program can't stand a young coach with no experience especially not knowing how to build a program. that's what happened with the past two coaches! good luck knights as I bleed red white and blue like you!

#6 CAROLINE: the cav players that stuck out this year on a team with such few players and very little talent are # 1 in my book. they have to be tough kids that love the game but one thing for sure you now have the coach antron yeates that can turn it around. he did a excellent job at w@ l before he took the caroline job. but with everything that transferred out a all state qb and two all state receivers just wrecked the program. they had very little to cheer about this year and it don't look too bright next year. hang in their guys brighter days are ahead!

2015 outlook: I wish I had good news for for caroline but I can't see any progress until 3 or 4 years down the road. the jv team only won a couple and had few numbers like their varsity. yeates did the right thing to build that program as he played his upper classmen on the varsity and took his lumps. he left his better jv players down on the jv team to get experience rather than bring them up against varsity competition. this imo is how you build a quality program and I believe yeates will. one hs in caroline county and some good athletes out there and eventually yeates will get them out but he has got to get them in a winning mindset .he graduates all but 2 on offense and 2 on defense so as you can see he has a lot of work to do. I wish the cavaliers well and things will look up in the next few years!

well everybody everyone in the district but JM and courtland are collecting their gear as the season comes to a end. I think with chancellor and KG getting a little better the district next season will be stronger than this year. but chancellor might get a little closer to courtland and jm but I don't feel they have the athletes yet to compete with the big two. first of all rather worry about next year lets concentrate on our two bd teams as they start playoff action. good luck jackets and cougars! the Fredericksburg area is already proud of your accomplishments but we are pulling for you to go all the way
and bring that state trophy back to the fredbg area and the battlefield district. remember to watch us in the fredbg Stafford and spotsy area as we cover the playoffs with mike nevell, mike nelms and yours truly on Comcast centeral Virginia tv. see you in the playoffs!
