Well the season came to a end Friday night with all the battlefield teams with the exception of winless Caroline going to the playoffs! we have one five hundred team and two with losing records making the crazy VHSL playoffs. this is the par for the course in society that thinks everyone should get a trophy like rec leagues does. neither here or there here is my final district rankings.
# 1 Courtland 8 @ 2 the cougars held this place all year with the exception of 1 week. I figured with all they had back from last year they would be the best team in the district and they are. I predict they will go deep in the playoffs but can they beat Lake Taylor? I don't know but I would like to see it ! first things first they have a rematch with KG and do you think they are looking forward to that after they were beat by the foxes earlier this year? good luck cougars as you head on in the playoffs!
# 2 JAMES MONROE 8 @ 2 Jackets took out the loss to Courtland on KG as I figured they would! still a great season and with them playing in a relatively weak region, the jackets have a good football team and will do well. their defense is better this year but like last year has a problem with the run. as the weather gets colder and the fields messier they will need this defense to step up because down the line teams will run more because of field conditions! their backs and receivers are as good as anyone and that smallish sophomore Felton is a good one! they get Armstrong out of Richmond at Maury stadium Friday and should advance on with no trouble! Good luck JM and TCB.
# 3 Chancellor 7 @ 3 been a good year for the chargers even though they lost IMO the best QB in the district Jason Brown! thought they were pretty much done when Brown went down in the KG game with broken ankle. and low and behold up steps a unknown QB Hunter Kozlow and he might not be Jason Brown but he was plenty good enough to beat KG and Spotsy. he threw 4 td's against the knights and so far they have not missed Brown. they got Eastern View who they beat earlier this year and It was a pretty even game. when you beat a decent team once most coaches will tell you it's hard to repeat the victory! if the chargers advance on and beat the cyclones and courtland beats KG the chargers will have to play the cougars something no one will look forward too. we shall see in the playoffs without Brown how much they will miss him! look out BD next season as they are my early favorites for next year. but first things first the cyclones will test Chancellor this time and good luck chargers!
# 4 KING GEORGE 5 @ 5 the foxes got their lunch handed to them Friday as JM destroyed them. I figured this as Courtland took it on the chin 2 weeks ago and dealt JM a loss making KG the hunted by JM Friday night! poor KG I got news for you now you got Courtland and they aint forgetting! this may be the end of the season for KG but I wish you well as anything can and will happen! good luck foxes!
SPOTSY 3 @ 7 My boys from post oak are in the playoffs for the second year. like last year I really don't think they deserve it but they are there and I'm proud of them. 3 and 7 is not too good but at least the offense played well and ran smooth something they haven't done since Coleman left! thank you Tim for all your un paid coaching! now they need to get some speed out for football next season and sure up the defense! Spotsy got a break in the first round as they got a very average 6 and 4 Brentsville team! i'm going out on a limb and pick the knights to upset Brentsville ! Good luck Boys from post oak I will be pulling for you!
# 6 Caroline 0 and 10 it's been a long season for Caroline but if coach yeates can get all those good looking athletes out for football they will improve with coach yeates! with all the transfers out and coaching changes the cavaliers have taking a beating and it's going to take a while to restore respectability back to that program. Caroline is a one high school county and is a disgrace to field a team like this season. good luck next season guys! get in the weight room and you will see a improvement next year.
there we are my rankings this year. remember this was my opinion and I hope the posters enjoyed my rankings. didn't get many posters disagreeing with them so I guess They must have been pretty much on target. now lets get out and enjoy the playoffs and pull for your favorite team. IMO H S football is the best HS sport going. all these kids giving it all they got and the champion gets a 20 dollar trophy with no millions of dollars paid like pro sports!
