At 2:15 today Coach Frank Beamer will announce his retirement. He will finish the season. Hope he goes out in a winning note. Yes, the Hokies need to move in a new direction, but he deserves respect for making VA Tech football competitive. Anybody have any ideas for a good replacement?

That's great. I mean he has done great things for tech but he has worn his time out. Hopefully the AD will bring in a good coach other than Bud Foster.

Hearing rumors Rich Rod from Arizona
That has been the rumor on Twitter and "key play". Not sure if he would be a good fit or not. He can recruit and there are already weapons in house at receiver. Some good kids like Sam Rogers want have a place in Rich Rods offense, but that's the state of things in football these days. Agree with OC. Foster is not the right choice. Hope they don't mess up and hire Shane Beamer. He struggles making decisions regarding the rb's.

I just think bud has been in beamers system for so long you will be getting the same. Will they look at the JMU coach?

Please, no div 2 coaches like London!!! Let's get a big time known coach that will lead to a new direction and far better recruiting. The best players are leaving.

I agree go big! Grundy from Okl state would be a good fit

I have heard rumors of Rodriguez as well but I don't think that's a good fit personally.

I have heard that Foster does not want to be a head coach. I've heard he doesn't want the headaches that comes with being a head coach as opposed to a coordinator.

Shane Beamer I feel would just keep you on the same track you are and I don't think that is what fans want.

I think the AD will want a fresh face, he hasn't been on the job all that long, just a few years so he doesn't have the loyalty, relationships or ties to those on staff now that some would.

I know Temple's coach will probably be in high demand and of course you have your retreads that you sometimes get but I think the way to go is look for an up and coming coach, someone who you hope can do what Beamer did at Tech. The next coach will find Tech a better program than it was when Beamer arrived 29 years ago.

All depends on if Foster will be retained. If he is go after an offensive coach. If not it has to be someone with Virginia ties that can recruit Tidewater. This is going to be interesting because this is a big time job opening.

USC, Miami, South Carolina, Maryland, Central Florida, Minnesota, Illinois, Hawaii, North Texas and Virginia Tech are all looking for head coaches for next season which means Tech will have some competition.

New Coach is fine and I understand the need for change but anyone that dismisses Bud Foster as your DC is insane. He is probably their best recruiter too. If BF wants you, you come to VT. I also completely understand if he doesn't want the HC responsibilities.

Tech needs to go Robert Prunty. Started at little Gretna High School and turned them into winners. Went on to Hargrave Military and made their postgrad football nationally relevant and sent numerous kids to D1 schools and NFL. Left Hargrave for Texas Tech where he was labeled by many the best recruiter in the nation. He'll keep all this talent in Virginia and have VT national relevant again. No brainer but it'll probably never happen knowing VT.

I don't know about that... I gotta feeling he is going to do just enough to get another year.
This may save his job lol. UVA keeps him so he
I think Rich Rod would be exactly what that program needs! His offense is a shot of adrenaline followed by a cup of coffee! If you remember when he was at WVU, he brought in players like Pat White, Steve Slayton and liked the versatile QB and compliment him with a really good RB. WVU was on its way to a national title under Rich Rod but he got greedy with Michigan and he never regained that edge again. I would even pull for VT if Rich Rod came in and I've never liked Tech in my life!
I like Rich Rod, but only if he retains Foster. Not sure if the 3-3 Stack is a VT type of defense.

While Va. Tech is not University of Michigan, Tech does have some solid traditions of its own and when it comes to maintaining that Rich does not seem to keen on that and look no further than how things panned out at Michigan. I think Matt Wells would bring young energy and could do well with the talent on current roster and improve on the traditions of Tech. Plus he would have much better recruiting ground to pull from than where he currently is.
