At first glance, the final 50-47 score between Oscar Smith and Varina would make one believe it was a tight affair that was back and forth throughout the game. However, the two halves could not have gone more differently as Varina won the 1st half and Oscar Smith won the second half.

Oscar Smith trailed 26-16 at halftime but outscored Varina 21-8 in the 3rd quarter to grab a 37-34 lead going into the 4th quarter.

The Tigers opened up a double digit advantage in the 4th quarter. Three baskets by freshman Cameron Thomas and a layup by T.J. Taylor gave Oscar Smith a 48-37 lead with two minutes to go.

Varina went on a 6-0 run to cut the Oscar Smith lead to 48-43 with 50 seconds to go but it was too little too late as the Tigers got the victory.

Oscar Smith was led by Thomas who earned MVP honors after scoring 15 points. He became the first ever freshman in the nine-year history of the event to take him the Player of the Game trophy. T.J. Taylor added 12 points and Nyzaiah Chambers chipped in 11 points to go along with three steals and seven rebounds.

Tyrese Jenkins
scored 16 points to lead the Blue Devils and Kenneth Southerland added 14 points and five rebounds.

With the win, Oscar Smith moved to 16-2 overall. Their lone two losses were to Tallwood and Trinity Episcopal. Varina dropped to 13-4 overall.
